Q: How do you fold the case to make it stand or fold for typing

Thank you for your question. You can turn the Tri-fold front cover backward. It will turn into a triangle standing with the help of magnetic inside, and then you can place it with a 60 degree for viewing or with a 30 degree for typing/writing. There has an instruction in the sixth image of the product listing. Please be noticed that the magnetic will get stronger as you use this function multiple times.

Q: Is the inside lining that touches the ipad screen, microfiber or leather material?

By the way, if you find the standing function is not sturdy enough when you first receive this iPad Air 5th/4th Generation case, just fold the tri-fold front cover and use this function multiple times, and then the magnetic will get stronger to turn it into more sturdier. Don't worry, it's just because we use premium leather outside which is more durable than the other. Let us know if there has any problem.

Q: My cover does not have a magnet in it so it does not stay shut and will not stay folded backwards. Are they all that way or is mine defective?

The reason it falls frequently at the beginning is because we use more durable and more protective leather. So once you fold it 2-3 times, the leather will become soft, and then situation will change.
