nearly all 8 yr olds to 25 yr olds will think this is lame
"Clash of the Olympians" is a set of movies from 1959 to 1964 which are epic productions of ridiculously predictable stories with super hero men, and incredibly beautiful women. One or two involve monsters, some are entwined with myth and legend, some have some historical basis. Most of these were filmed in Italy, and don't kid yourself, these films have been copied enough times the soundtrack is a little bit off and doesn't match the people as they talk. There's Ali Baba, Rome, Thessaly, Hercules, Herod, Spartacus and more here, 16 films in all. To enjoy these you have to be a cult film, classic B-movie, over done film buff, that can overlook some glitches here and there in the quality of these films. There is no rating on these, predominantly because they are from a time before censorship lowered the standard for what they'd allow. These are family safe, not all that frightening, bloody, or sexually suggestive, the battle scenes are laughable, and you're guaranteed to crack up at what special FX they put into that era of film making. All the betrayal, arrogance, ignorance, and greed you could ever hope for in a set of movies, just not current event type stuff. For what it is supposed to be, I'd have to say this is a great way to own 16 epic films and have them fit in a normal size DVD case. Worth the price, the scenery landscapes and architecture along with the costuming and grand scale. If the soundtrack was timed a little closer to the film, I'd rate this at higher stars; as is, I'll say 3 stars. You've probably seen these on late night TV when you were up all night for whatever reason, and this was the best there was on TV that early in the morning.

A good action filled value
I grew up watching old movies of all sorts. Long before Captain Clarence Oveur (Peter Graves) exuded their charm. These movies are sword fighting in dirt, adventure packed features. Many are dubbed to English, they really didn't try, the lip movement never seems to match the voice over dub well. Technically speaking the quality of image and sound varies from not bad to occasionally why is this so magenta, light or so dark you can't see only out lines. Generally watchable and still entertaining, it's just nice to see movies without multi-million dollar special effects thrown at them. Do like movies about gladiators?

Old Movies
The movies in the packet are old, picture is not good but watchable. I enjoyed the diverse picked movies that sets the movies in different stories. I liked the fact that Hercules actors were different thus, proving a adventurous and active showing of entertainment.

... in the 50's so watching these old things is like going home to visit
I was raised in the 50's so watching these old things is like going home to visit. Once you get past the fact all the actors have the same voice (dubbed into English because it was an international cast).

great for fans of the genre
some really good classics, some not so awesome, but the set is well worth a look. the big 3 are represented, Steve Reeves, Mark Forrest and Reg Park. would have a higher rating without Hercules and the masked rider......

Standard Screen; Soundtrack EnglishThis extensive compilation from Mill Creek Entertainment caters to fans of old mythology-themed movie spectacles by presenting a whopping 23 1/2 hours of entertainment from the 1950s and 1960s, a significant portion of which is occupied by films from the classic HERCULES series of movies. Stars of the package include Steve Reeves, Alan Steel, Mark Forest, Gordon Mitchell and Dan Vadis; featured titles include THE GIANT OF MARATHON (1959), ALI BABA AND THE SEVEN SARACENS (1964), HERCULES AGAINST THE MOON MEN (1964), HERCULES AND THE MASKED RIDER (1963), HEROD THE GREAT (1960), and SPARTACUS AND THE TEN GLADIATORS (1964).The sixteen films are on 4 double sided DVDs, each disc in a poly lined pocket, these fit quite nicely into the oversize library case. The picture and sound quality of all films is poor, in the standard 4X3 screen format, on some of the widescreen films, a lot of picture area at the side of the screen is missing, especially visible on the opening credits, we only get to see part of the names of the cast. These italian/french co productions were rushed out in great numbers during the late 50s early sixties, a similar thing happened with westerns later on.The budget was small, the acting dreadful(Badly dubbed) They do have a certain camp charm if women swooning over men with big muscles throwing polystyrene rocks over a cliff is your bag. All films are faded and appear to come from well used VHS copies. However on the plus side, this collection is very cheap, and you are unlikely to find them elseware.

COLOSSAL VIEWING!
The people at Mill Creek deserve a hearty pat on the back for releasing this set. 16 films for Β£5 is not to be sniffed at either! As stated in other reviews the picture quality does vary but the films are 50 +years old! The are real classics like HERCULES UNCHAINED, GIANT OF MARATHON, THE AVENGER (all with Steve Reeves), GIANTS OF THESSALY and HERCULES AND THE CAPTIVE WOMEN (with Arnold Schwarzenegger's mentor Reg Park). Still need to finish the set. Lots to get through!
