Never Say Nay-Sayers Again
This disc is the one to get if you're a Bond completist. For one thing, it isn't included in the other Bond Blu-Ray boxset, for another it was slightly censored in the UK for a shot of a horse falling in to the sea at the insistence of the RSPCA. This is a Scandinavian BD release and so the shot is included in this print. Also it's region free (A, B & C) so it plays all over the world. It has 20 languages on subtitles and 9 audio languages AND a commentary by the director and 3 especially filmed short extras (filmed in 2008) with interviews with many of the cast (Connery is noticeably absent). This film gets a lot of stick from fans loyal to the Eon produced Bond films, being called everything from boring, slow and talky to "the one they tried to ban", "illegal" and "unofficial". Which is nonsense. It was made, perfectly legally, by an independent producer who legitimately had the film rights to the novel Thunderball and he did his best given the restrictions put on him by Eon only to use the book as a source and not to reproduce anything from their Bond films. (Blofeld's white cat, however, clearly invented for From Russia With Love, somehow made it in.)Yes Bond is older, yes Sean Connery is wearing a toupee, yes the music score is often inappropriate, yes there's no James Bond Theme or opening gun barrel sequence...but there's great performances, outrageous villains, terrific dialogue, great humour, gorgeous cinematography by multi-BAFTA award winner Douglas Slocombe, Connery seems to be enjoying the attention and for once, it all has a different pacing, unlike any other Bond film. And who didn't want to see the original cinema Bond come back one more time for a film directed by the guy who made The Empire Strikes Back? All considered, this is a success. Sure, it could have been even better but the very honest commentary track explains the film's short comings and the making of this film is every bit as interesting as the end result.

Completists take note.
I cannot understand the rip-off,sky high, profiteering price some sellers are asking for this Blu-ray release. This is presently about the cheapest available price for a new blu. If you are weary about this being a foreign release - don't be. The disc itself is region free ( a-b-c ) coded and printed in english, as is the front slip-cover. The back cover has some small foreign writing and country flags that really are practically unoticeable from an English/American copy. Disc menu is pop-up, with dts English master audio 5.1 and the picture quality is an improvement on the dvd release. If, like myself, you have an L.g tv with cinema or zoom aspect setting, the top and bottom black bars can be taken out, if required. Hope this review is helpfull.

"Never See Never Say Never Again"?
Much is said of an Older Bond, but Roger Moore who was off doing Octopussy at the same time was older than Connery so make of that what you will. Connery hadn't aged well? Anyway, Although this isn't mone of my favourite Bond films I'd take this movie over Thunderball any day, mainly cos I kinda remember this as a kid & it looks more modern-ish. I don't really understand why it was made & nowadays this would probably be a straight dvd film. I had to buy this blu ray for all the special features & being a Bond fan. I wish there was more info about the legal rangling & more juice & gossip of what was going on in the background. instead much of the commentary is Irvin Kershner is him explaining scenes we can see. There are a few nuggets of interest but they are here and there. I don't like the massage scene which is a little seedy & just feels wrong & Kershner's commentary on this scene doesn't help. I think basicly the problem with this film is it's not a Bond Film. You are looking for Gunbarrel openings, & Bond-esque music titles & action set pieces & gadgets that just aren't there. Connery plays the role with hardly any gusto & looks bored through out and Moneypenny?, What moneypenny? The villians are forgetable which is a crime with Max Von Sydow as Blofield he should've knocked it out the park. instead he's just nothingy & bland. Klaus Maria Brandauer's Largo would be good as a villian in a Sleeping with the enemy type film but in here he's just lost & poses no yhreat to Bond at all. Barbara Carrera is a good vilian & more should have been made of her role (bit similar to Grace Jones, A View To A Kill) It just doesn't work as a Bond film. The Eon Films have the money to pack in the action & luxary & in the documentary on the blu ray the writer says he was told to take out the action scenes for budget perposes. I still like the film & I can watch it without being bored or annoyed at the end of the day it was made in 1983 & there's not much anyone can do about it now. it is what it is!!

Completed my collection
What can you say about Bond and Connery?? This one was left out of the box set because it was not done by the original producers, so had to get it separately to finish off the entire series...I love this one.

Never say never again oder Sag niemals nie
Schwedische Blu-ray Ausgabe von Never say never again oder Sag niemals nie.
