Ginkgo outdoors bonsai Ginkgo Biloba. Country of origin: the original is from Asia. In Europe, it grows since 1750. Cultivation: the seeds can be grown all year round (when done indoors). The seeds need a treatment. The hard seeds case should be brushed with sand paper, allowing it to swell for about 12 hours in room temperature water. You can then put the seeds in moist cultivation soil. Finally, they have to be thinly covered with soil and kept evenly moist and very warm. A clay temperature of approximately 20 °C to 25 °C, the minimum germination time is approx. 5 weeks. If the plant is cooler, it can take 5-10 weeks. Location/brightness: any location is possible for ginkgo. You should only protect the seedlings and young plants from the blazing sun. Watering and fertilising: water regularly, but allow the soil to dry only superficially. The nutrient supply should be done every 4 weeks from March to November with liquid bonsai fertiliser or organic slow-release fertiliser. Cutting: ginkgo allows you to retain a natural upright growth. You should always cut back the budding to about 4 leaves only. Ground: 2/3 argillaceous compost and 1/3 sand. Worth knowing: ginkgo can grow very old (about 1000 years). It has existed for about 250 million years. Its kind is a fan leaf tree and thus a hybrid between coniferous and deciduous tree. It is not infected by any disease, it is absolutely resistant and can withstand even the strongest long-term emissions in the cities.
