Painting Watercolour Sea & Sky the Easy Way

This book is very well presented and an easy to follow, step-by-step guide to painting watercolours for beginners. I now have three of Terry Harrison's books and am really pleased with them.

I bought this book to try to improve my techniques of painting seascapes. The book is laid out very clearly and a the techniques are explained clearly with colour charts to use for the different exercises. Water colours are a very personal choice so these exercises could easily be applied to your own styles of painting.

The projects are good and easy to follow. There's a lot of nice scenes to paint, however I had to alter the scenes slightly when I sketched them because they don't always fit nicely onto a4, I had to crop or shorten things from the original picture. It's difficult to get the composition right for some things, especially the canoes, just based on the finished painting. It would have been nice to have a page of just the original sketch in a4 format to copy from.I don't really have his kind of brush set and it didn't really bother me too much, I just chose whatever brush I had that I thought was appropriate. His scraping technique for the rocks is pretty cool, not sure I've gotten the hang of it yet!

Terry Harrison takes you through each painting with instructions for what brushes are best to use and which colours would suit the scenes best

Terry clearly describes lots of techniques and takes you step by step creating many pictures. Very useful.

Good, but more examples would be nice.
