Meet the Dogs of Bedlam Farm Hardcover – April 26, 2011

We have a ranch, & Border Collies. I purchased this to read for our granddaughters 1st grade class for a Show & Tell of Borders and Ranch Life. The class LOVED the book! Gorgeous photos!

I participate in a Tail Waggin' Tutor literacy program at our local school and as a Chocolate Retriever I enjoyed the way Mr. Katz portrays the black Lab in this book. Yes, Labs are "special". We each have our own special personality. We don't herd sheep like the border collie and let's face it, we make really, really poor guard dogs. We are just too darn friendly. But we all have something special to bring to the table and Mr. Katz understands that and shows the uniqueness of the Lab in this book. For that, I say "Thank you, Mr. Katz"We have given this book away many times to the kids in our reading program and they always point to Lenore and say, "She is just like Roxy." Like Lenore, I too have something to offer. There is nothing better than sitting with a Kindergartner and reading a book. Especially a book about dogs!

I have been doing animal-assisted therapy with abused, neglected and at-risk children with my Australian Shepherd, Callie, for more than 6 years. During this time, I have collected many children's books that I use in my therapy work. Last week, I read my newest acquisition, The Dogs of Bedlam Farm, to a group of kids, ages 9-17, in a lock-down facility. I never know how a book is going to go over the first time and each group of kids is different. They were all very attentive and quiet, and I think they liked that two of the dogs looked like my Aussie. I was, however, shocked when they all applauded when I finished. Happy to have this in my arsenal of tools to teach kids that every dog, and every child, has value.

I bought this for a friends little grandson. His grandparents have border collies. He tho is a city kid.Always enjoyed Mr. Katz’s books. And found this book in the used section, absolutely great condition.

I love books written by Jon Katz - I've read them all! This time a children's book... as a retired elementary school teacher, I see this book as a valuable addition to the classroom. The story told of the four dogs from different backgrounds learning to live and work together is a wonderful way of getting an important lesson instilled in children at a young age. Jon Katz's great photographs draw the reader - of all ages! - in. More children's books - Jon Katz!

I have read several of Jon's books and found them all enjoyable. I purchased this book for my granddaughter, but hated to part with it. I think it has a message for all of us, not just children. The beautiful photos show the dogs in their home environment, doing what dogs do best. As with all the other readers, I had a hard time holding back the tears by the end of the book, but they were happy tears for such an endearing story. Jon is a truly gifted writer.

This is a very sweet book. The interesting photography captures the different personalities of the four dogs, and the simple text fits the subject well. It was the wonderful surprise ending of this book, however, that put lumps in our throats and regrets that it had to be returned to the library. I've since bought copies for ourselves and others, including my sensitive almost-11-year-old daughter, who specifically asked for this simple children's picture book for Christmas.What a poignant and encouraging message!

Any dog lover who would like to live on a farm in upstate New York please raise your hands and BUY this book!This is an excellent book for young children to teach them about love, friendship, and family.Katz is a very talented and sensitive writer and photographer!I paid $6 for this book on Amazon which is a bargain for a book that brings such joy!P.S. You don't need to love dogs to enjoy this book but it helps!
