This is a recommend!
Good product. Rock tumbling grit in general is expensive, and you cannot reuse. This product is inexpensive and gives great polishing results.

This Step One grit is an exceptional bargain.
For Step One of Rock Tumbling, you may have to process the rocks more than one 7-day cycle. So you will use this grit the fastest, so buying it in large quantities is necessary, and this grit was priced 25% less than at the Rock Stores. The grit is identical and has the same consistency as expected. This Step One grit has been shaping the rough rocks and lasts for the entire cycle, as other grits do for this step. The rocks processed in Step One do not shine, but their shape does smooth out. I recommend this Rock Tumbling Grit.

Cheap plastic bag used to contain the grit in the pail. Have not used the grit yet.
I have not tried the grit yet so this review is just about the condition of the item received. When I opened the plastic pail, grit came flying out and made a mess. At some point in packaging or shipping the thin plastic bag inside the plastic pail got 2 holes near the top of the bag. The bag seal seemed fine but possibly whoever sealed the bag put 2 of their fingers through the bag. I suggest the manufacturer use a better grade of plastic bag and or double bag the grit like the last vendor did (was not the same manufacturer).

Good value.
This grit was just what I was looking for. I have a bunch of big garnets with poor crystal faces to grind into spherical shapes and it will require multiple runs through my 1 gallon tumbler. This 10 pound lot of grit was priced very well per pound compared to smaller quantities offered by other vendors.

Very consistent particle size, making it suitable for optical work. I used this successfully when grinding telescope mirrors, where consistent particle size is very important. Very satisfied!

I have tried and used other step 3 polishes and this type seems very good as a pre polish. I will be buying more.

Pretty good! Been using this grit. Definitely great to have a large amount of this as a hobbyist.

No issues with this grit. Nicely priced and works as it should. Packaged nicely in a small bucket that seals back up nicely. Grit is contained in a plastic bag inside the bucket. Also included is a cute small metal shovel. Not much use for the shovel as it takes 3 scoops of the shovel to fill a tablespoon, but I didn't buy it for the shovel.

Seems to do just fine BUT it is NOT pure silicone carbide. There is iron in the mix (use a magnet). Doesn't seem to compromise the effect.
