Best book on understanding teenagers I have seen
I've been a youth worker for 20 years and this is the book I recommend most for parents of teenagers and those working with teenagers. It provides great understanding of not only how teenagers behave but also why they behave like that - what is happening in teenagers to make them often challenging to be around? So even 5+ years after I last read this book I remember that when young people are being encouraged to be critical thinkers at school, we should expect them to be critical thinkers at home or elsewhere... It also gives tools to parents at a key stage in their child's development which will ease the difficult times. It is well written, easily understandable, and I have read it several times. It is a very balanced and positive book, being neither harsh on teenagers nor their parents and teachers.

An excellent analysis of youth culture for the outsider.
This is an excellent book about how to work with teenagers today. Nick works through all the familiar themes that bother teenagers today and cause major concerns for those of us who work with them as parents, teachers or youth workers. Whilst looking into some of the most worrying aspects of youth culture he manages to construct an optimistic future that we and our teenagers can work towards together (whether the teenagers are willing participants or not!) He writes with absolute reality and unpicks all the problems of teenage culture today in an extrememly practical manner.
