Never (Never, 1)

Beautifully heart-aching and whimsical.
Never had me kicking my feet and falling in love while simultaneously bringing me to tears. The characters are all messy, but I was also still rooting for them in a strange way. While this is based from the original Peter Pan story ( not Disney movie), I believe you’ll be surprised by how unique this story truly is.Just be prepared to have lots of tissues. If you’ve never read anything by Jessa, you may not know that she thoroughly rips out your heart through the characters actions, but in a weird way you also like them. I truly cannot wait for the next installment in this series.

*SPOILERS* Jessa sure does know how to write angst!
It’s just so hard to rate this book because I’m not sure how I feel. The plot was something that was very interesting and obviously was good enough for me to finish but I feel as if there was so many things left unanswered, which makes me assume there will be a second book and if there isn’t then maybe the author was trying to have readers have their own interpretation.I was irritated with the characters a lot, but that’s to be assumed with what I’ve read from Jessa already, Magnolia Parks/Daisy Haites, a lot of her characters are insufferable but I presume that’s the point with the amount of angst she provides in her books. Peter was obviously a weirdo from the beginning and I wanted to punch him in the face many times lol. Peters character was childish as to be expected but we’ve got an idea that he probably wasn’t being as honest as he was claiming when it came to him “forgetting” or acting like a child, but we got no answer whether that was true or not. Same thing with the “medicine”, Peters never been confronted with what the hell he’s giving them, even though it was mentioned as if it was suspicious. It was also clear as day Peter had anger issues and so many times I kept screaming at the book, “GO BACK TO LONDON!” because I’m all honesty she doesn’t have to be with any of them. Also with Peter leaving kids to die, whether she wanted to forget it or not she should’ve asked him about it, in my opinion, because he did leave her to die twice already. (Minotaur and Drowning).Jamison was a character I had not really liked in the beginning because it was mentioned a lot he was waiting until she was 18… and yeah that thought i just couldn’t get out of my head. He wasn’t as insufferable as Peter but then as the book went on… it just started going downhill from there. Don’t get me wrong! There were times where I felt as if, Daphne was being childish (which can I blame her? when spending time with Peter and only just turning 18) but at the same time Jameson is 22 and sometimes acts like a petulant child. The things he said about her, whether he believed it or not, whether he was angry or not, was something I personally wouldn’t be able to forget.I wish we had more information, especially in regards to the land and why it “talks” To her or why the fairies Rune like her but usually doesn’t like humans. There’s a lot we don’t know and I hope that gets answered in another book. Jessas writing is something to be commendable though, she writes in a descriptive way that makes it easy for me to imagine Neverland. I was able to be intrigued in the story and not want to put the book down even though I was frustrated at times.

I’m rolling my eyes…
I had to fight to get through this book. Full of repetition and characters that don’t really grow (perhaps on purpose? It is Neverland…), it was not a satisfying read.

Piano & Kicked are my lingo now 🤣
Oh. My. God! I need book 2 literally now! I've never been more devastated to read 3 words in my entire LIFE! So, I'm thoroughly ruined now.PIANO! FRIKKIN PIANO!OK now that that's out of the way, this was a blast! I had the absolute BEST time reading this! I laughed so much. I wasn't expecting this to be absolutely hysterical, but I haven't laughed like this in a while. And I loved being in Daphne's head! She reminds me of me. How I actually think in my chaotic, ADHD, completely manic, self doubting brain. Living inside her head was an absolute delight. Even when I wanted to shake her 🤣 this book got so many not great reviews, and that's fine, just means this book and this way of telling a story just wasn't for them. But holy hell was it for me! I'm obsessed, and in love, and utterly completely heartbroken 💔 where is my shack in the clouds, Jessa?! WHERE IS IT 😭 the literal moment there is news about book 2 I need it! I need it like Neverland needs Hope. Until then.... PIANO!

Very disappointing! Not worth finishing.
As someone who likes romance and fantasy, I was excited to read a retelling of a magical story we’re all somewhat familiar with. I was intrigued by some of the changes: Daphne being older, Jamison’s character, Peter’s dark side, etc. but in the end, none of the book’s pleasant surprises outweighed the obvious lack of plot, unanswered questions, uncomfortable relationship dynamics, and extremely unlikable characters. The first person POV was exhausting and indulgent. The love triangle was repetitive and annoying. The world building was next to none. And the last 30% of the book was hardly readable, leading to an ending that was so frustrating it made me feel silly for finishing the book at all. Don’t waste your time, there are MUCH better fantasy/romance books out there that won’t diminish your IQ.

JAMISON HOOK!! 🫶🏽
jamison hook gets all the stars for meokay i went into this kinda nervous because it doesn’t have the best reviews but i love jessa and obviously i’m going to read anything she writes.i was not disappointed in the slightest, it’s so jessa hastings coded and i think if you enjoy her writing style you’ll really like this book. we all know she writes the most infuriatingly annoying but lovable characters and this is that but with a fantasy twist.““He laughs and I like the sound so much. Like you’re sitting by a fire with a drink in your hand that you love, that’s how his laugh feels when it hits you—it warms you up from the inside out.”“i think she did such an amazing job with the opportunity to dive deeper into side stories she introduced but didn’t quite develop so i’m excited to get some more of my questions answered. i’m also super pumped for the character development because i just know they’re about become some of my favorite ones. (hook already has).also i need to see a picture of jem’s top lip so i can be obsessed tooside note:obviously there were parts that could have been worded differently, i honestly don’t think she meant for them to come across the way that they did. if you can look past that part i say give it a try.
