Great lamp. Around year 5, you'll likely have to replace the power supply.
I bought this lamp about 5 years ago and loved it. It's solidly built, one of the brightest I could find, and the fact that there's no cord connecting the pole sections means it's super easy to assemble AND I could take out a section and put the lamp on top of a credenza when I bought one.But sure enough – as other reviewers have noted – around year 5, the lamp started flickering and the brightness dimmed. I was bummed but I decided 5 years wasn't a bad lifespan and so I bought the lamp again. The new lamp arrived yesterday (same unit but bought a diff color this time). Works as expected. Great. Here's the interesting part. This morning, out of curiosity, I plugged the old lamp into the new power supply. Viola! The old lamp worked fine; no flickering and full brightness. It's been running fine all day.So, it appears that it's the power supply that goes after 5 years and not the lamp. I haven't found a suitable replacement for the power supply (photo attached) on Amazon yet but similar ones go for less than 15 bucks.UPDATETwo weeks later and the old lamp is still running perfectly using the new power supply. So it was definitely the power supply that failed at year 5 and not the lamp.

Nice room brightener
I like these lights. I just ordered two more for a total of four. I got the sunlight option 5500k option and it works for me, but would not work for everyone. It is a very white light. I face the light away from the center of the room, and bounce it off the walls and beamed ceiling. I use the first two in my high-ceilinged and large bedroom. It has no overhead light, and gets really hard to work in in the dark hours of winter. The whole room brightens with these lamps which is both invigorating and makes it much easier to see what you are doing.Although these are screw together poles, the joints are not very visible unless you’re looking for them and within a few feet. The poles are a nice quality which look they will hold up much better than most stand lamps (screw together or not). There is no visible wiring except at the base to connect to an outlet. There is a on/off button on the poll which is lit and highly visible at night, for better and worse. The light is quite modern. The flat disk at the top is what provides the light, but also makes it look kind of space-shippy, maybe?I’m a little concerned about how long the lighting elements will last. The polls could be reused, it’s just the disk and its attachment point that would need replacement - if they are offered..

Be cautious about light temperature
I agonized over what lamp to get and thought "natural daylight" would be the right option. Big mistake - it ends up delivering a very harsh white light, something more in the 3000K range would have been much better for the sitting room where I am using this. After dealing with it for a couple of years I just came up with a great fix - get some filtering gels (essentially clear sheets of colored plastic used on photography equipment), which are around $15 on Amazon. I cut one to fit the top of the lamp and used carpet tape to stick it on - brings the light to the right temperature and you otherwise don't see it because it's on the top of the lamp. There's a nice flat surface and the lamp doesn't get too hot so it's perfect!Other than that am very happy with the lamp, have had it for a few years now and it is very reliable. It's pretty basic in appearance but basically just blends into the background and delivers a lot of light.

Bright. Highly Configurable. Clever. Great lamp from a great seller!
I read a lot of technical books, manuals, and documentation. I also work with a lot of tiny parts. The blurry vision caused by eye strain can get pretty bad by the end of the day. Having more light in a room seems to reduce the level of eyestrain noticeably. I've also noticed that brightly-lit rooms seem to raise my energy levels, so I recently decided to upgrade the amount of light in every room of my house. Like many people, I prefer indirect lighting because the light is more evenly spread throughout the room, greatly reducing dark shadowed areas. I decided to get torchiere lamps so I could bounce the light off the ceilings. Then, I started browsing Amazon. That's how I came across these lamps. When I saw how these lamps are assembled, I knew I had to have them. There is no wired connection between each segment of the central tube. Instead, there are electrical contacts hidden inside the ends of the tubes which only complete the circuit when the tubes have been tightly threaded together. I immediately wondered if you could leave out one segment on some lamps to make them shorter while adding an extra segment in other lamps to make them taller. I emailed questions to the seller who was incredibly helpful. He pointed out that the compact base was going to be significantly less stable if an extra section of height was added. He saw no problem making shorter lamps, though. So, I decided to go with these lamps. I'm VERY glad I did. I even waited a few weeks in order to get the warm white light combined with a silver lamp. That combination was brand new and still being manufactured. The seller kept me updated on Amazon availability. As soon as they appeared, I ordered 4 of them. When the lamps arrived, they worked exactly as I had hoped they would. I have a granite desk surface wrapped around 3 of the walls in my hobby room. This layout means usable floor space is at a premium. I left out one segment of the tubing when assembling two of the lamps and placed them on top of that desk surface. The height was perfect and these lamps are really bright. My hobby room transformed from a poorly-lit dungeon to a brightly-lit high-tech laboratory. These are awesome for use as desk lamps when one segment is removed! I was hooked. In the living room, I used those extra tube sections leftover from the short lamps I put on my desk surface to add height to a couple of extra lamps for my living room which has 9ft. ceilings. I tested these ~8 ft. tall lamps and found the seller was right. The lamps were easily tipped over. So, I bought some chrome-plated 10LB weightlifting plates and added one on top of each base. This is only possible because there is no cord running between the sections of the center tube assembly. Simply unscrew one section and slide the weight over the tube. Adding 10 LBs to the base worked really well, keeping those extra tall lamps perfectly stable. I think it also looks pretty cool.I liked these lamps so much, I ordered 4 more a week later. I put those next to the workbenches in my garage workshop. All of these lamps are attached to WiFi switch modules so they can be turned on or off by voice using Alexa. When the switch turns them on, they always revert to full brightness, which is exactly what I wanted. The light output is just about perfect - not too bright or too dim. I don't think it's quite 5000Lm but it is definitely bright enough to make a huge difference in any room. I have several super bright desktop LED task lights which cost 3x as much as these, yet they put out the same amount of light. I'm very pleased with these lamps. Highly recommended.
