All young educators should read this!
Mindful teaching and mindful living have the ability to change the world, I believe, and this book does a good job of introducing those unfamiliar with mindfulness and how it might be integrated into a classroom. I would recommend this for teachers of younger students-- it claims to be just as relevant for teachers or older students, but as a high school teacher, I found that most of the practical suggestions in the book were much more suited to the younger grades. It is also fairly superficial, so if you're looking for a deep exploration of how to integrate mindfulness into the classroom, you should keep looking, but if you've never read anything of this sort-- read it!... and more importantly-- PRACTICE IT!

Good introduction to mindfulness
Overall, this book is a nice general introduction to mindfulness strategies for educators. It’s a good place to start if you are new to mindful practices. The book is geared to elementary or mid level teachers. I got some good ideas, but I didn’t feel like the book rocked my world.

A user-friendly mindfulness guide for teachers and their students
As a mindfulness mentor in two local school districts, I was delighted to find Deborah's book which provides such succinct, yet complete methods teachers can use to develop mindfulness in their own lives, both before and after school and then to embody its awareness, balance and compassion in their classes. The book gives a variety of practices to use with students, which will be of much help in relaxing, focusing and motivating them at any K-12 level and in any curriculum. It is the only book so far that seems to address all of these needs in a very user friendly, yet deep and caring way.As an educator with over 30 years of teaching experience at all levels, I look forward to using it in two local school districts as well as in other organizations here in the Modesto, California, area.

Just What the Teacher Ordered!
This book brings back the joys and passion of teaching and the wonderment of learning, a two way street for both the teacher and the student. In this new age, one of the many frustrations of teaching is that teachers do not see the stamina, perseverance and desire in many students to sustain learning. Using the techniques in this guide will make both teachers and students life-long learners. Finally, a book that really concentrates on teaching as a craft and as something that is most precious. Thank you,Deborah. I intend to share copies with my English Department at my school this September.

new age hooey
Based upon the positive reviews, I purchased this book, but I definitely regret my purchase. The author uses new age meditation techniques and anecdotal experience only. I admit I stopped reading about half way through, but I just couldn't stand to read any more! Where's the research? Where's the proof of the statements she makes about, oh, everything? When I reached the part about mindful attendance taking, I gave up. Why would you want to waste time doubling up on attendance and greeting, when you can do both at the same time (Hi, Kristin, good to see you, glad you're back, Dylan. Did you get that new book you were talking about, Cody? <wow, I just checked in three of my students>), so that students can be engaged once they are in the class room, not bored and distracted by everything else happening while the teacher is calling the name of EVERY student, after they were greeted at the door. I was just not impressed with the content or the writing style. If you are looking for research-based assistance in turning good teaching into great teaching and ways to improve your methods, you might want to look elsewhere. I didn't find it here.

Excellent too for MIndful Teachers
Inspiring examples of mindful connecting with students of all ages. Becoming a mindful teacher is the first step in teaching mindfulness as Ms David illustrates so well. I return to it for helpful tidbits all the time.

As a new educator myself...
...I have embraced this book and found great comfort in the daunting task of becoming a proficient educator now and in the future. This book, as the title suggests if both for the benefit of the teacher (be it educational, professional, public, private, or familial) as well as students. It is simple and accessible, as well as compelling and thought provoking. A permanent fixture in my library.
