Robin Hood - Director's Cut [Blu-ray]
D**
Directors Cut. Making of movie disc. Booklet.
Ridley Scott was never going to make a movie about an archer and his buddies running around the wood robbing people. It must of been done more than any other movie. So please don't expect yet another. Anyway that would just not be our RIDLEY SCOTT.This is the PREQUEL to Robin Hood.Robin Hood (Obviously not his real name) is returning from the Crusades via France with Richard 1st ( Lionheart) one last push.( Here the film IS politically correct. Richard loved fighting and used to just hold a shield up and block arrows. Richard did die in a ridiculous manner as he did in the movie. As the French archers stopped to eat, a cook thought he would have a go with a crossbow, took a shot and hit Richard in the collar bone that was buried deep.) " I say old boy that just isn't cricket) killing him on the field of battle ( not correct) Richard did not die on the field.Anyway, knowing there hardly going to get paid they head for England. Again Robin knows a ship is hardly going to sail for a handful of archers they dress as knights with the Kings crown. ( the real knights were ambushed returning the crowd to England ) " Good grief this review is longer than the bloody film"The point being Robin takes on the knights identity to return to England. Here the film starts the traditional Robin Hood story. All very interesting and a film I enjoyed. This is one of the best bargains I have got my hands on all year from AMAZON probably longer. Just under £7.00There are 2 discs ( not 1) on this addition. The Directors Disc has 16 extra minutes as well as the Theatrical addition. The extra disc contains The making of the movie. Now there is also something in this addition I have not seen with a DVD in years. A beautiful Booklet. Introducing the characters and who there were.AMAZON ARE YOU CHARGING THE CORRECT PRICE FOR THIS MOVIE? lolThis is at present a remarkable price for such an enjoyable movie. Even if you watch this movie once it is a bargain. Personally I would of thought this movie to be priced around £20. So get a copy.Take care, Stay safeDave.

Robin Hood
*2 and a half out of 5*Ridley Scott’s gritty prequel tale of the titular character. Robin Hood is set in twelfth century England, Robin Longstride (Russell Crowe) and his band of marauders confront corruption in a local village and lead an uprising against the crown that will forever alter the balance of world power.Having only seen the 1970’s animated adaptation and the 2018 box office bomb my knowledge of the character and real interest isn’t too high. My thoughts on Ridley Scott’s historical set epics (aside from Gladiator) have all largely been average, despite them boasting impressive technical aspects and strong casts. I can confirm that Robin Hood also falls into this category.Aside from the strong usage of his bow and arrow (even though most of his band of marauders and the army he is part of are just as good at archery), the one time he actually robs from the rich to give back to the poor and the names of the various characters, this could literally be any other Medieval/historical best action adventure due to the generic nature of the story and lack of iconography and, honestly the ‘fun’ elements that the Robin Hood property normally is associated with. At 2 hours 35 minutes (for the director’s cut) the film is overlong and meandering, aside from the few action beats and the performances keeping the film engaging.Like with all of his historical works the technical achievements by Scott are very impressive and the spectacle for the final battle scene is epic and large scale. The fight sequences are scrappy and brutal with the camera getting stuck right into the middle of the action of following Robin’s arrows as they fly and strike their targets in surprisingly satisfying gory detail. There is some very impressive location cinematography and the set design, props and costumes all perfectly capture the time setting.Crowe is good here and clearly channels Maximus (and William Wallace for his several speeches), his accent can be bit hit and miss at times but he delivers a courageous and imposing portrayal of the character. Cate Blanchett gives a sharp, witty and strong performance as Marion and she and Crowe have good chemistry. Oscar Isaac is suitably dislikable and power hungry as Prince John, Mark Strong delivers in the villain role as Godfrey, though the character and his motivations are bland and basic and Max von Sydow, William Hurt & Danny Huston are also good in their supporting roles.Robin Hood is an average action adventure. Certainly not bad and the strong cast, impressive technical and visual achievements keep it engaging. However the overlong runtime, bland and generic tone, the several meandering and uninteresting sequences do let it down.

Great film but faulty Blu Ray
Have asked for a refund or replacement Blu Ray. It looks like it is snowing in a lot of scenes when it should not be. Very poor quality disc. Either a copy or faulty.
