Civil War On Sunday (Magic Tree House #21)

What a great story for young people.Telling a bit of history - hard stuff to tell younger ones but in such a good way for them to hear and understand. And putting the reader into the historical moment, bringing history alive. The reader is not only made a part of the story but there is an element of exploration as well. Plus the interest of time travel.This has a little of something for everyone - exploration, mystery, history and intrigue.I got this particular book because our church does a service each year to honor those who fought and died and lived during this time period - it’s called Peace Service. Our church sits just a few yards from where the battle of Dranesville occurred.I look forward to reading more of these books.Yes, I recommend these books for others to read - become a part of history with each read.

I like that it had time travel.

We went to Virgnina to visit some battle ground and my Kindergartener was so into Civil War story. This was very informative and easy read for 6 year old. It's educational and relatable to our young mind.

We are using this book as a mini read aloud during our Civil War unit study. My son loves the Magic Tree House series and so this one has not disappointed us. It is rich with facts and details but does so that younger children can still enjoy the story without needing background information. They are "short" stories in that we are easily able to read and finish one in a day. Without fail, these stories always leave my son asking to read more!

Not a lot of history facts, but it was for a third grader haha. My daughter really enjoyed the book. A short quick read.

These books are a cry of relief from the five minute books we usually read with our son and they have already taught him so much about science, nature, and particularly history. Jack and Annie, the lead characters in the series, travel through time and meet with prominent historical figures such as Equipment Queens, take a trip to the moon, spend a day with Abraham Lincoln, land in camp with General George Washington as he is ready to cross the Delaware, and even convince a young Mozart to continue his pursuit in music.They are well written books that peak interest in subjects young kids may not yet have access to and have accompanying research guides that give detailed back stories and historical guides to the subjects covered in the novels. Although the intended audience of the series seem to be for children around 8 - 10, our five year old becomes engulfed in the stories every single evening, always looking forward to what adventure Jack and Annie are heading for next.Amazon also tend to have a wider availability of the series than book stores like Barnes and Nobel at prices up to half the cost of the same.

My son had to read this book while they were studying the Civil War at school. He absolutely loved it and has asked for more book like it.

My kids love this series. This book comes at the perfect time to relate to current world issues, told in a way that children can form an opinion on the reason for the American civil war. The part with Jack and Annie's speaking with the elderly African American soldier struck a nerve for me personally - assuring him that his fight and struggle had meaning and purpose for future generations. This story came at the perfect time.

My son loves these books. He keeps asking me about American history but if it keeps him reading its alright with me!

Bought for my granddaughter. She absolutely loves this series. My grandchildren pick an author and read all that the author has to offer.
