The Best Of Ealing Collection [DVD]

Ealing made the best films
Really I just wanted Passport To Pimlico so it was a cheap way of getting the other four too. The picture and sound are very good quality and I have no complaints. One of these will fill a quiet evening when there is nothing on the telly.

Good old time comedy
If you like humour that is silly smart and inoffensive as an antidote to the political identity or offensive comedy of to day you'll love these a hark back to a more innocent time. Get a load of snacks something to drink and settle down with the family from kids to granny and enjoy

Good value and mostly good films.
A good collection of classic British films. Passport to Pimlico has relatively poor sound quality and did not hold my attention hence 4 stars. The best film in my opinion is The Ladykillers which although dated and naive by today’s standards, has immense charm and humour and cannot be beaten as the original. The Lavender Hill Mob is also good fun and a delight to watch. Alec Guinness was a tremendous character actor and these two films were the reason I bought this collection. This is a good value collection overall and I received fast delivery.

The package is worth purchasing.
All the films in the package "Ealing Studios" are dated and each one lost some of its original value. The comedies "Kind Hearts" and "Lady Killers" nicely describe the human nature, which does not change much with passing time. I rate these films 4 out of 5, each. The "Lavender Hill Mob" certainly deserved the highest mark at the time of its release. Now, I rank it 3/5. The films "Man in White" and "Pimlico" are very outdated and moderately amusing. I rate them two and one, respectively. --- I assign the mark of three to the whole package. It is dedicated to the collectors and I am not one of them. Nevertheless, I definitely do not regret this purchase.

classic Ealing comedies
Was looking for The Ladykillers and found this set. Excellent value, 5 classic comedies. Not to some people's 'modern' taste I suppose, judging by some reviews, but I think most people will like them .

I don't drink but this Guiness is special.
Forget CGI and think of scripts well acted by personable actors such as Alec Guniness, Denis Price, Joan Greenwood and many others. Modrn film makers could learn from the Best of Ealing. I hope they do.

A Salute to British Comedy
A great nostalgic look at a bygone era with arguably the best series of comedies that the Ealing Studios produced. They all had interesting things to say about the human condition - love, envy, greed, compassion etc. The story lines scripts acting and directing were first rate. Sir Alec Guiness was such a versatile actor and these showed his comic side while later his roles were mainly in the dramatic vein. My favourite was "The Lady Killers" with "Kind Hearts and Coronets" not far behind. A must see for all British Comedy admirers.
