I have purchased this as a personal safety device, as I am a solo female OTR truck driver and night hiker who often wanders in dark deserted areas. I figured that since I live alone in a small town, that could also save my life, should anything happen to me while no one was watching.So I bought a pack of two, because I was expecting to break one while testing its' strength/limits, but it was not even necessary!The cord is very strong, securely anchored with a metallic pinch which I took off. It resisted a very strong pull before giving up. Now I have shortened the cord and tied it with a secure knot.I removed the tiny connecting metal ring as well, as I feared its' flimsiness, plus it clashed with my sense of fashion , and to avoid any possible contact with my sensitive skin.The whistle itself is not made of one piece but the plastic seems good enough to survive heavy use. It is very loud and the pitch is higher than the ones I grew up using for calling our farm dogs. There is a genuine cork ball inside; how cool is that! I expected synthetic material :)I am proudly wearing it from now on, as my own modest jewelry and very safe fashion statement!
