Outstanding 4K Player!!!!
Great item. Upscales 1080p blu-rays better then my last player - an untrained eye wouldn't even notice the differance between 1080 and 4k. Built like the old players from 10-15 years ago - case is made of metal and its pretty big - get measumens before you buy so it will fit with your current set-up. The high-res audio is outstanding. There is no diplay on the front which I like. Also of note - I have a 3 year old non HDR 4k Sony TV and this player downgrades HDR to SDR fantastically. No washed colors or dark scenes in the 4K movies I have watched so far. All in all an outstanding player. Kudos to the seller - Hot Deal Electronics - for the fast shipping and packaging. Had it at my door step less than 48hrs from ordering. Overall I am Very Happy.

Great Product!
Okay, second time around with the X800. Bought a multi region one last year, and it failed on arrival. Put up a small error message on the screen. Like this one it was an XMAS present so it sucked. But this was a modified unit from a vendor. So this time, bought the US only version. Took out the older Oppo player and plugged it into the existing HDMI cable.... and.... nothing. Not a thing. Black screen. Looked like lightening struck twice. After trying everything and use before ripping it out, thought I would switch the HDMI cable with the Sony after market one attached to the Apple TV. Hey Presto up pops the screen. IU switched that cables back and back screen. But the cable that failed works fine with the Apple TV. Note that this was not using the supplied cable - no point if you are replacing a box with a new one... But anyway be aware of this. It may be this is a case of some of the out of box failures seen. From this it appears that the X800 may be a little finicky on the HDMI output.Okay, so now we have a working unit connected to the TV. Quickly connected to network and the unit updated itself with the latest software,. Then set up the rather limited streaming services with Netflix, Hulu, etc. Then popped in a Blue Ray disc, and started viewing. Running this unit with a Panasonic Plasma TV results were as hoped for, great color, and smooth video. No complaints at all, seems to work well. Sound quality is excellent. Overall very much on par with older Oppo player. Given Oppo have thrown in the towel it is good to see Sony and others starting to produce serious quality products in the Blue Ray space. Overall very pleased and looking to explore more fully the capabilities of this player.

Great for 4k and bluray movies
This is a solid performer. Spending anymore on a 4k player is a waste of money. Its mostly about your the quality of your tv and sound system. You will read alot of reviews of some of these so called high end units costing hundreds and close to thousands of dollars. Don't be fooled. If you looked at some of the streaming services, they now rival the sight and quality of the discs. I'm not saying a good unit is obsolete, but........ spend your money on a really good tv.

Nice 4K player
I added this player to my home system since I just upgraded to a 4K capable receiver. I am very happy with the Sony as I replaced my much older LG BluRay player. The load times for the Sony player are MUCH quicker than the LG as I think LG was starting to have problems figuring out some of the new disc encryption routines.Anyway, the Sony is a very capable player and the upscaling of older BluRay & DVD discs is impressive. Upscaled BluRay discs are very close in 4K screen appearance to 4K UHD discs. Purists will see the difference but most won't pay attention to that.

This item was not a good item for me
This item was not a good item for me. I been wanting a 4k ultra blu ray play to go along with my 4k ultra television. SO, I see this one and it's a Sony and at a reasonable price, so I buy it and low and behold the thing would not hook up for Netflix. It kept saying it needed to update. So I click on the update and it still would not work. So I figure it is defective. Now I'm trying to send it back and I can't do that either. Looks like I'm going to be out of $180.00 and the thing wont do what it's supposed to do. What's the next step?

So far, so Great!
I just got this player a week ago. I have watched four 4k movies and 3 blu ray movies on this machine and it has been wonderful so far. The picture quality is great. I have streamed Netflix and Prime on it with no problems. Set up was a breeze. I have a BOSE sound bar and combined with the picture quality of the 4k player, I feel like I am at the movies. Love this player - worth the $300 price tag. Thanks Sony!

DVDs get stuck in tray ALOT
DVDs gets stuck inside all the time. After some research found it's a common problem. Feels cheap compared to previous Sony items I've owned. Seller shipped fast. Item new in box. I would not buy again.

Exceeds my expectations
I probably didn't read all the description before purchasing, but i'm very pleased. I've always been a Sony fan. I've never been disappointed with Sony. It has really great picture quality and easy to use.
