A bit expensive, but well worth it in certain situations
I understand that this is not a replacement for a real, wood-burning fire. I also understand that I could make one myself with a cookie tin, leftover wax candles, and some corrugated cardboard or egg cartons. However, sometimes you get to a camping spot late at night, or they ran out of firewood at the last stop you made before hitting the forest, or you want a nice little backyard fire for entertaining guests but don't own a fire pit. These are all the reasons this little thing works so well, and is totally worth the price to keep on hand for those situations. The fire is warm enough for 2 or 3 people, and the flames average about 18 inches high. It puts out the light and warmth of a small wood fire, but without the sparks or smoke. It lit super easily and stayed lit until we snuffed it out after about 2.5 hours (it looks to be about halfway spent now. We were using it in the mountains where they say it has up to a 5-hr burn time, which appears accurate). And as for the high cost and the "just make one at home" folks:A) Firewood can also be expensive -- especially when you're like me and buy the good oak stuff instead of that smokey, moist, sparky pine junk. And it takes up a lot of room.B) What kind of real people with jobs, kids, etc. have the time, resources, or patience to make one themselves, let alone with food-grade wax that doesn't smell and can be cooked over? Yes, I'm sure it's cheaper, but sometimes the price we pay for convenience is well worth it and I think this is one of those times.Anyway, I'm an avid camper and love my wood fires. This will never replace them. But sometimes having a backup like this is a blessing on the trail. When I used it, it kept two people warm and happy on a night that dipped down into the low 30s. It was super easy to light, and snuffed out in about 3 seconds with the lid slipped over.I'll be buying another to keep as a spare, and might try refilling this one as a project to help spread out the investment.Highly recommend!Oh, and it does get pretty hot -- after all, this is a fire in a can. Don't blame the manufacturer when you put it on a heat-sensitive surface and ruin your patio furniture. Have some common sense.Happy camping!

Gets the job done!
This is the perfect little set up for a quick get it and go camping trip! Hands down a great little piece of gear! Would I use it to roast marshmallows on; probably not. Something about burning wax, something you’re gonna eat as a marshmallow kind of doesn’t go hand-in-hand in my book lol. You can’t beat this little thing. It puts off just enough heat and just enough flame for a small campfire and I didn’t have to worry about putting the fire out with water and all the smoke afterwards. Just put the lid back on, jump in your tent and go to bed. Will this ever replace a real campfire… I would say no, but for somebody like me that has my boy every other weekend and I need to do things on the fly. This is a perfect!

Great portable campfire!
I really enjoyed using this and will order more when needed. I found this to be very easy to light, portable and easy to carry, and it last for about 4-5hrs even with it being pretty windy. Now don’t get me wrong this definitely doesn’t replace a good natural campfire, but this is excellent for when you are on your own, or if it is windy out as it reduces risk of starting a wildfire, did I mention how easy it is to put out? Just slide the lid over it that’s it. All in all I highly recommend this product! Would be kind of neat if they would release a larger version of it.

A fun, innovative product.
This is really cool. The upside is that it is small, easy to light and throws off a lot of heat. When youre done, you toss it. The smell is somewhat perfumy and it throws a lot of smoke, so try not to get down wind. Also, it gets really hot, so dont plan on moving it, once lit. It looks ugly, once opened, kind of like gray water with clumps in it, but it looks bright when lit. The attached pic makes it look like the area around it is on fire, but it isnt. Best to wet down the grass around it if you use it on grass. Easy to extinguish and re-use, just by sliding the lid back on. The flame went right out after sliding the lid on, without exposing my hand to the flame, but best to use a potholder just in case. We used it two nights in a row for a campfire jam, and our fingers were all warm. Everyone we were with wanted one. I would repurchase.

Convenient
We camp with our horses and after riding all day, we are too tired to start a real campfire with wood and have to stay up till it’s out. This handy fire in a can is easy to use, light weight, put the lid on it and the fire goes out so your not up all night. Thought it may have been kinda cheesy at first but we really enjoy it and have purchased more. I’m on our third one and will continue to buy more, just wished they lasted longer than 5 hours so we could enjoy them for 2 nights of camping. Convenient cause your not hauling wood, fire ring and handling soot covered mess.

Big fire, easy Cleanup
If you operate this with basi fire safety knowledge you should be fine. I placed this in my firepit because building fires takes too long and they are a whole thing to put out and I needed an easier alternative for nights when I can only sneak a quick firepit sesh in before bed. Worked out great. Put it out with tongs using the lid like it says in the instructions, was easy. Would buy again!Update: I bought again and, like another reviewer pointed out, the cone style pits do not burn as well at all. Disappointed! I wish there was a way to know which version you are getting when you order.

Saved our camping trip
We found out late that our camp site had severe due restrictions and banned campfires. We almost bailed on camping until I found this product. This made a very convincing campfire substitute.. it put out decent heat, roasted marshmallows and was mesmerizing to look at.

Loved it!
This portable fire was amazing. I bought it when I had a camping trip planned and there was a campfire ban in effect. It was great!! We even roasted a few marshmallows on this and it wasn't bad - there is quite a bit of soot, though. Still, it was totally worth the price. Super convenient, easy to put out, warm and cozy. I will definitely buy more of these to use in our backyard!

Very cool concept!
Very cool concept! Price was a bit steep, but had to order it and try it out. I was not disappointed! Burned a huge flame and lasted as described.

Perfect for the city life
Only used it once so far and it was much better than expected! I was worried about being disappointed but it burns really nicely and crackles... we set it up on a little round table to feel closer to it but it's not so small that it can be mistaken for a candle. I would recommend!
