Perfect TRV that is Smart… enough!
I purchased this TRV for a difficult bedroom in an old farmhouse that would always be too cold, too hot or with too much condensation. I had actually replaced the whole-home TRVs, including the Valve Stems either side of the radiator 2 years prior. With a normal analogue TRV, which works much like an old mercury thermometer, the pin valve slowly rises as the room loses heat, opening the flow of water. The problem with this radiator was that it is the first in the circuit, making it difficult to balance. It is also the one that collects the most air and requires a yearly bleeding. As a result, as the pin rises, it gurgles and makes blobbering noises that disturb the sleeping resident (me!) and tends to get Roasty Hot.Not so with this Honeywell TRV! The valve is motorised and can be either fully open, or fully closed (balancing the valve on the other side is now simply and easy). The time settings allow it to be switched Off overnight, for a nice cool bedroom, but on during the day, in sync with the boiler system. Obviously this TRV can’t make a ‘call for heat’ to the boiler, so won’t ’turn it on’ if the heating is Off, but frankly, that’s all I needed for this use case. No app, no whole house smart system, WiFi/zigbee hub and vendor lock in. Just a Smart Enough TRV.Yes the set up is a little complicated and I can see how the less technological might struggle, but it’s Not That Complicated. A Simple search for ‘HR27 instructions’ will get you more detailed information. Another reviewer left a handy cheat sheet for the secret menu (holding menu button for 5 seconds) to set the ‘valve stroke’ etc (also handy to set to show the actual room temperature as measured by the device, which will help you get your temperature settings just right). Do the setup and configuration holding it in your hand, make sure to select ‘unmount’ to fully wind in the mechanism, and screw it on. Done.Cool room at night, warm in the mornings, and just right for bedtime.

Good but not good
This programmable radiator is an excellent and well designed, cost effective solution to zoning your central heating without resorting to apps, controlers such as "hive" or alexa type smart speakers. The bad part is the instruction manual is unfathomable. What comes with it tells you nothing about how to programme it. Most of the page is taken up with multiple language options. The good bit is that that there is a link to video instructions on how to programme and use the TRV. Great idea but that doesn't work.I mean that you can watch the videos but they are nearly impossible to follow. In an attempt to be multi language, there is no narrative, just elevator music. The presenter is obviously familiar with the product so pushes buttons quickly and silently. Blink and you miss what he did. As my wife said, its a bit like someone teaching you to solve the Rubrics cube by silently doing it in front of you, as fast as possible with no explanation of the method.I see that Amazon offer discounted "refurbished " controlers. These are really returns......which I fully understand as the instructions are abysmal, the product is great.Honeywell, please take note: Make an English soundtrack to your video and pause it between actions to let people follow what is happening.

Does not work well
The stat is not shutting off the rad even when set to 5c minimum and room at 20C. It’s also challenging to program

Goof but extra instructions required- see below
I am pleased with this HR10 radiator controller. In my view the simplicity of not requiring a separate thermostat and wifi + phone to control it ,make a far better 'Smart controller' than those we usually see for sale currently. The main issue is the lack of good instructions. The leaflet has some of these, and a QR code links to the extra 'Parameters' instruction which are worth printing off. But the important programming of the time/temperature through the day is not explained. Hopefully my findings will help below. There are three button on the controller to the right, I will call the top A , middle B and bottom C.TO SET THE TIMING & TEMPERATURE OF YOUR PROGRAM; Push B and then use the down arrow to view 'programs'Then select A to see the days of week option, the arrows can be used to adjust these, I kept on Monday to Sunday. Then select A again to get both start and finish times .Select A again to get the start time icons flashing and change the time using the arrows up or down.Select A once more to save and move to the finish time edit, and A to saveNext the temperature for that time will flash and edit with arrows and save with A.Add more times and temperature as required.B goes back one step at any time.I hope this helps- it seems crazy Honeywell cannot improve the instructions, but the unit works well and would buy it again now I think I have mastered the programming.

Good Valves that work well
The first plus point is price, I paid half that of the Hive equivalents. The hub is fairly inexpensive too. They paired quickly and the software is easy to use. They also react very quickly to modifications done in the app where my Hive valves take an age.

The instructions aren't any good!
You can't program this using the instructions! You have to contact the manufacturer's UK agent to get the sensible instructions and, even then, they are not the easiest to follow. Amazon doesn't allow links to be included in reviews so I can't put the email address you need here but consumersupportuk is part of it and resideo.com is another part. I wonder if this review will be accepted?

HR27 Not produced by Honeywell for the UK Market
You cannot commission this Stat the HR27 unless you can read German, Dutch, French, Italian, Spanish or Portuguese, as it is not supplied by Honeywell with fixing, commissioning or operating instructions in English.Having tried to follow the visual details of the Instructions i have made an error and need to reset the Stat, i am hopefully hoping Honeywell will tell me how to reset the stat to factory setting, so that i may attempt to commission the stat again. Very relieved that i only purchased one to try before fixing to all my radiators.
