This is a PITA to install
This review is for the FEP film, but really, it's about how messed up it is to replace FEP on the Halot Mage series.I've had a Halot Mage since December 2023. It's now the middle of February.I've had to replace 5 of these things now. This is basically weekly maintenance if you're like me and try to keep the printer going on at least an 80% duty cycle. As I said this is weekly maintenance at this point.I don't know exactly what this is made of, but it doesn't come clean. It doesn't clean with alcohol, Windex, lens wipes and certainly not water. So, you just have to replace it once prints don't print because not enough light can come through (seems to be about every 50th print, but that could be my resins). It is the biggest PITA to install. It's the most dreaded part of my week. So much so that I've given serious thought to selling my Halot Mage and buying something else.It doesn't fit directly. It must be cut down to size once properly installed. To properly install it there are over a dozen Allen bolts that must be tightened repeatedly, in a star pattern but to even get to that point you have to poke your own starter holes in exactly the right places and pray you get it right the first time since there's no guide and no margin for error.Meanwhile it takes finger-prints, it takes moisture, it even got a print from the brand-new parchment paper I set out just to make sure nothing got on it this time... UGH!The resin tray itself seems to be a haven for old resin that will leak all over the new FEP film as you work it, so before you even begin you must remove the old FEP, remove all the bolts and wash everything including the bolts thoroughly in alcohol and let it fully dry, then wipe away any extra resin. If you don't do this first, your gloves will pick up the excess resin caught in random reservoirs you never thought could hold so much resin and smear it all over while you're trying to put it together. There are videos on how to replace it, they conveniently forget to mention the fact you need to poke your own holes, or the constant tugging you need to perform as you install it in order to ensure it doesn't develop creases. Whoever designed this system must've assumed that people have 6 arms. How hard would it be for them to punch at least some starter holes???
