British Museum: Celebrate!: Discover 50 Fantastic Festivals from Around the World

Lovely book about celebrations all around the world.
This book is beautiful. Each double page spread is a different celebration from around the world. I like that the Contents page at the front is split into Continents, then tells us the Festival and country. I knew nothing about most of these. We all know the obvious; Christian festivals, Eid, Diwali, Chinese New Year, Halloween, Guy Fawkes possibly even Rio Carnival, Thanksgiving but there are 50 in this book so plenty to read about. What did I like? I quite fancy going to Quebec for the Winter Festival, Bloemencorso Zundert (a flower parade) in the Netherlands and as a lover of Venice I'd like to go at Carnival time (although it'd probably be flooded). However the one that i thought the the most amusing, mainly because of the name - in Mongolia there is Naadam (The Three Manly Games!). The three games are wrestling, archery and horse racing; women are allowed in the last two but only men in the wrestling.Laura Mucha has made a fabulous job of the text which is spaced throughout the page making it easy to read. And the illustrations...Hannah Tolson has made an amazing job of bringing these festivals to life. Well done to both of you. This will definitely be going into our school library.Thank you to Siân at Nosy Crow for this copy.
