You need to get this whistle!
Just to make it clear from the start I'm certainly not an expert on the tin whistle I've only been playing a few weeks, but already have the bug and I am driving my family crazy playing every chance I get. When choosing my first whistle I like most people do, read reviews of all the cheaper whistles on Amazon and was put off Generation whistles by a lot of the mixed reviews they seem to get. I opted for a waltons and I must say I can't fault it. Christmas came and a family member gave me an Amazon gift card.Great I thought lets get some more whistles I bought a Waltons C and a Generation Bb. When I played the Generation Bb I loved it and decided to ignore the mixed reviews and go for a Generation D. I saw the Boho paisley green and had to have one. When I opened up the package and saw it in the box my first impression was how stunning this whistle looks, the on-line pictures don't really do this whistle justice, but what will it sound like? I played a verse of Spancil Hill (one of my favourite tunes) and heard that classic Generation sound, easily slipping into the top octave without the harsh sound many reviewers have talked about, my wife even remarked how nice it was! Strait away I was so glad I went for this whistle. The bottom line is if you are a whistle player you need to get this whistle.

Beautiful!
I love it! Much warmer and cleaner sound than the nickel Generation I've got and the colours are beautiful. Glad I ignored the other review saying this was shrill, it's not at all. Wish more tin whistles came in such nice patterns. I absolutely love this whistle and can recommend Generation if you like a slightly smaller whistle with closer together finger holes.

Penny whistle?
Not happy with this penny whistle, a lot of squeaking and squealing out of it. Will be giving it to my granddaughter to annoy her mother who won't be pleased as she was a decent recorder player when she was younger.

A Paisley Generation Whistle! Great fun, but just possibly more trouble that it's worth?
What I kick, I thought, a paisley Generation whistle, and available in three colours! That raised a smile and I had to buy one. A warning though, as it does suffer some of the usual problems of inexpensive whistles like this, and Generation whistles in particular. There was a bit of sloppy casting of the plastic fipple head, 'flash', which can sometimes cause the whistle to sound harsh and uneven, but that can easily be cleaned up with the careful use of a sharp edge. It was also out of tune some, in this case the most jarring was a flat F#, likely just a little paint overspill, and also easily sorted, in this case a small round file. All that sorted, I was still in love with it and tempted to chase up two more, in blue and black, because I know it will raise smiles and even a laugh when I pull it out at a session. But now for another problem with this whistle, also not uncommon, the head/fipple was out of line with the body, the window offset with the finger holes by about a quarter of an inch. That too wasn't seen as a big problem. I'd easily corrected other whistles that had a similar problem, and in general the practice is to loosen the head anyway in order to have a little leeway in tuning. So, I 'gently' went about trying to loosen the head so I could center it. Using warm water to make this easier, to soften whatever glue they use, a towel around the head, it did eventually move, but not without damage. The head ended up with a significant crack in it and is now tightly held together with nylon tape. It plays well, flash removed, now in tune with itself, the head now moveable for a little light tuning with other instruments, but it should have never been such a pain in the backside to get it right for playing, and the tape around the head that now holds that huge crack together is a bit naff. Consequently the temptation to purchase two more has significantly been dampened... This is not the fault of the seller but of the company, Generation's sloppy manufacturing and lack of quality control...

Clarke macht konische Whistles, Generation zylindrische. Was man bevorzugt, ist Geschmackssache.
