1970's series resurrects '60's hero Simon 'The Saint' Templar and brings him up todate '70s style. The original '60's character from the books by Leslie Charteris was a suave, debonair, Volvo 1800-driving, polo-neck-wearing smoothie with a neat sideline in special agent-ism played by Roger Moore. The '70s version starred Ian Ogilvy- an equally quintessential English smoothie who drove a Jag XJS and sported the latest in funky '70s threads. The primary difference between the two was that Ogilvy's character operated mainly in mainland Europe in exotic destinations where Moore's had only dull old Blighty in which to operate. Episodes included: 'The Judas Game', 'The Nightmare Man', 'Duel In Venice', 'One Black September', 'The Village That Sold Its Soul', 'Assault Force', 'Yesterday's Hero', 'The Poppy Chain', 'The Arrangement', 'The Armageddon Alternative', 'The Imprudent Professor', 'Signal Stop', 'The Roman Touch', 'Tower Bridge Is Falling Down', 'The Debt Collectors', 'Collision Course: The Brave Goose', 'Collision Course: The Sixth Man', 'Hot Run', 'The Murder Cartel', 'The Obono Affair', 'Vicious Circle', 'Dragonseed', 'Appointment In Florence'and 'The Diplomat's Daughter'.

Just had to buy the box set and go back to that happy time which the series evokes
I was walking by St Bernard's mental hospital on the uxbridge road near Hanwell in 1977 and noticed the filming of the Saint. I left my mum and walked onto the set which had just stopped filming. They had renamed the mental hospital as a prison for the shoot. I remember vividly asking Mr Ogilvy for his autograph but I didn't have a pen. He asked the film crew for one and duly signed for me. An absolute gentlemen which for a school boy of nearly 15 has made it's mark to this day! Just had to buy the box set and go back to that happy time which the series evokes. 70's women with flares, great locations and the man himself with that great voice! Could easily have played Bond in the late '70s.

I highly recommend this box set for fans of the series
Exactly as I remember the series. This DVD set is not in HD. The picture quality is excellent for SD - a nice sharp picture with clean colors. One of the additional bonuses are the commentary tracks by star Ian Ogilvy with either the producer, director, or writer of the episode - at least 5 commentaries, maybe a couple more - I don't remember exactly. This set is not region 1, so a region-less DVD player is necessary if you live in the US as I do. I highly recommend this box set for anyone who is a fan of the series.

Great nostalgia within the wealthy life of Simon Templar
I purchased this from Amazon many years ago, yet stupidly gave it away. Years later, I ordered it again, and this time it will be staying with me.Some of the episodes are naturally far-fetched, but still great viewing with fantastic scenery and great memories from growing up in the 70s. Great to see George Cole, Mary Tamm, Maurice Colbourne, Joss Ackland etc. All very young and dynamic! From gritty building-sites in London to the beautiful canals in Venice.I won't spoil the plots. It was good to see Ian Ogilvy return for the 2017 Saint film, though in a different role.

The Saint Returns In A Wonderful Way
I love 1970s TV and this was one of my really favourite. Ian Ogilvy does a wonderful job of bringing back one of my favourite shows.Roger Moore was great as Simon Templer, but Ian is wonderful I like the way he has a sense of humour, fun, adventure and danger. One of my favourite episodes on this season boxset is the Nightmare Man with Joss Ackland.

... one of many childhood crushes and this was a favourite series in my day
Ian Ogilvy was one of many childhood crushes and this was a favourite series in my day. God I sound OLD! He is stil as gorgeous to me many years later. I only watched a few episodes so far and it is dated but comforting in equal measures. Blast from the past when things seemed so much simpler than they are now.

Great TV how it used to be made
I bought this mainly because I hadn't seen this since it was on the TV when I was a kid. It was a regular fixture after tea on a Sunday evening at my grandparents house when we used to visit them.It was also very entertaining to watch. I also found it interesting to notice how action-dramas are made so differently today. It also reminded me of time when you could read all the end credits without them being shrunk into one corner of the screen while listening to the end theme without it being talked over.Halcyon days. Also great theme music. It is now the ringtone on my phone!

great opening theme
great opening theme, and I liked the stories I felt they was far superior to the roger Moore saint stories or to be accurate the colour roger Moore saint stories the b/w series was in a class of its own and will never be bettered. but the series was let down by the pitiful amount of action which was poorly staged
