Just works
I bought this so I could console into my Cisco switches and im happy to say that it works perfectly without a hitch. Windows 8 installed it without the extra driver cd supplied so installation was quick and simple. Highly recommended.

Wouldn't work for me
Ordered this recently to try to get my old serial Wacom graphics tablet working on a fresh install of Windows 7 64-bit (as it would not work with a USB-serial converter under x64).I found that I could only use a x4, x8 or second x16 slot in my PC as the only x1 slot cannot accommodate cards longer than the connector itself. A far as I am aware this should make no difference and the manual does not state it must be in a x1 slot. No matter what I tried the card was not detected by Windows so I returned it as faulty. I was dismayed to find that the replacement card will not work either and am currently waiting for a response from Startech technical support.Furthermore I find that the card does not seat fully in my PC as the backplate will not drop in far enough and hence kicks the rear of the card up a few mm and the securing screw cannot be fitted. I'm sure a bit of filing of the bracket would relieve that problem. But as I've tried installing the card alone without the backplate making sure it was fully seated in the socket and found that doesn't work either, there's no point. There are other cheap no-name PCI-e serial cards on eBay that are short-enough to fit in my x1 slot but I'm loathed to waste any more time and money when getting the old serial tablet working under x64 is a very hit and miss affair according to various forums.

Impressed
The RS232 serial port is a standard port and is necessary for backwards hardware compatibility.unfortunately it no longer seems to be considered useful by manufacturers and has disappeared from new machines. It is a shame and the printer parallel port has gone to.A lot of hardware that use these ports is still current and is exceptionally expensive to replace.I was very impressed with this card.It was easily fitted and automatically installed itself at switch on.After the installation it appears to have completely integrated into the system and has caused no problems.I am running Windows 7 on this machine and was expecting problems with software and drivers for the equipment on the ports but everything installed and has worked OK with minimum inconvenience.Again I am extremely impressed.

Works well with Windows 11, which automatically downloads the drivers
Costs a bit more than many other cards, but just installed and it worked fine in a Windows 11 PC.The PC recognized it right away and automatically downloaded the drivers.I use it with a Ham Radio app called Chirp, for programming radios and worked perfectly.Strongly recommended.

StarTech gage de qualité
Excellente carte.

Having purchased a new computer, I needed a serial communications card for use in my Amateur radio activities. After much research into the cards available, this card meets the criteria I was looking for. My old computer had a similar card and it functioned perfectly. I have not installed the card yet but it is compatible with my control software.
