Nightmares Unhinged: Twenty Tales of Terror

A great read!
A frightening and macabre collection of tales that will twist your mind and crawl out of your darkest phobias. From classic settings of country roads and sun-crisped scarecrows, to futuristic horrors of human experimentation, these stories will have you clinging to the edge of your seat, holding your breath, and turning pages! If you enjoy the macabre and unearthly, this is definitely one you should have in your collection. The stories are not too long, not too short. You can read a few before you go to bed, (good luck sleeping!) or you can curl up for a few hours and read several at a time. Flip to any page, and there's a story waiting to unnerve and rattle your bones.

I like anthologies for the variety
that is offered. Granted you get some what is this mess every once in a while then you get the gems and it makes the journey with it. Out of 20 stories one was terrible. It had no premise, direction,it rambled off topic on weird tangents that by page 8 of the story I threw in the towel. The other 19 rated a 7 or better out of 10. This was an enjoyable collection that was well written ,original pieces even if it was a zombie story etc,the pov was unique it also introduced me to new authors. I recommend this to every horror fans library you will not be disappointed.

Fun but flawed
I found "Nightmares Unhinged" to be a fun read, albeit a flawed one. In order to best break down my thoughts for easy reading for potential buyers, I will keep this to a pros and cons list.Pros:- Every story is very well written and easy to jump into.- The stories "Zou Gou", "Needles", "Diamond Widow", "The Camera", "The Librarian" and "Taking the Dare" are all creepy and alone worth the price.- The presentation is very well executed. Everything from the illustrations to the type formatting is perfectly placed for a fluid reading experience. This also helps to tie all the stories together (even though they aren't related to each other).- That cover art is awesome.- Reminds me of an adult version of "Scary Stories to tell in the Dark" by Alvin Schwartz.Cons:- A lot of the stories are very predictable.- Too many have the shocking twist in the last paragraph.- I know they are short stories, but I felt that a few stories were to short to be impactful or terrifying. Also, as a suggestion, for the second edition I would remove the blood splat on the cover that explains there will be "Ghosts, monsters, vampires, werewolves, witches, zombies & more.". Removing it adds to the suspense of what is contained in the book.

Nice selection of mostly scary short stories.
The best thing about this collection of scary short stories is that they each only take minutes to read instead of hours or days. Most are quite entertaining but a couple of them left me with ?

The stories were good, but many of them left me wishing there was more to come. Maybe some of these stories will continue on in other Books, or I can just use my own imagination. Books like this I found are a good way to find writers that enjoy to read. Hope to see more Tales of Terror in the future.

Loved
I just loved the variety in this horror anthology. The stories were the right length with no editing errors. This anthology is very diverse with something for everyone. The book was also a great read.

Nightmares...
I good book to have to help you sit thru the waiting at a appointment. Most stories can be read in about 5 minutes. One reviewer gave a short review on each story, and then the honesty he gave on the book and each story decided my buy. I agree that a few stories to me too just didn't work. But early on the ones that siezed my attention, had me reading each one looking for the quirk and twist I love in a short story.

JUST READ IT!!!
I agree with a former review on here, don't bother reading the write ups, read the book!!!! I nearly didn't buy it as someone said it wasn't so good but actually they were wrong, this is a brilliant book. Plenty of stories so you won't be short changed and each one different. Ok some are predictable but nevertheless a good read. Loved the one about the man and the haunted house as that was totally unexpected but I won't give too much away, just read it.

Amazing stories, I bought it to have some short stories to read in between "big" books and I ended up reading the whole book in one go

A good selection
A good selection of very different stories, by very different writers, some better than others. I particularly liked Lost Balls. I shall look out for that bridge!

A great diverse collection
I'm a big fan of horror anthologies and this one proved to be very enjoyable. Depending on your tastes in horror not all of these stories will appeal. I felt some of the authors left their stories so ambiguous they almost seemed unfinished. Having said that though, there are some great chills to be found within these pages. The story of a junkie prostitute whose needles begin to be absorbed into her body was one of my favs. At under two dollars for twenty stories and with a portion of the royalties going to a Colorado cancer centre, you're not only supporting Indies but getting a great read and helping to fight cancer. Give this anthology a try.
