I would have been better off using a glue gun -- read on
I am sure this is an excellent product for many, but not for me. This is an item that is not for beginners -- I got suckered in by the advertisements of how easy it was to use -- There is a learning curve,,, But I didn't have the time nor patience to learn all the tricks needed to make this product work. The dance I had with the iron to attempt to get this to work was clumsy to put it mildly. The tape would constantly shift from where it was supposed to go. Once I did get the tape to stay... the hem was really easy to pull apart. My advice -- find someone who has used this product to give lessons.Add one star if you know what you are doing -- subtract one star if you are as clueless as I am.

Perfect for those that can’t sew
Quick and easy to use! I used vertical strips and ironed the pants from the outside and inside. I was worried about how it’d hold up in the wash but even after 2 months it looks like I just did it yesterday.

Easy
Really easy to use if you know nothing about fixing up clothes. You just place the tape where you want it then iron it on to stick.

Dritz iron-on hem tape
It took me a little practice to get the hang of using this tape but now that I've done a couple pair of pants, it's a real help for me. It does seem to work more easily on polyester than on denim but I've been able to hem both types. I'm a blind single dad with a 9 year old boy and I find myself constantly in need of hemmed pants. This is how I do it: I wash the pants, turn them inside out and roll them to the length I want. I then set a reverse seam with a hot steam iron. I use full steam so I don't melt the polyester pants my son wears but I do keep the iron close to max setting. I have found that placing the tape at the very top edge of the material keeps it from coming undone when legs are stuck into the pants. I just measure the tape off the roll and tear it off with my fingers, place it carefully as flat and smooth as I can and then adjust the pants material to make sure it's lined up and smooth for ironing. I use the iron on high heat with full steam setting and place it on half of the taped area, pressing down hard and pushing the steam button a couple times. I hold it there for a slow count of 20 and then pick it straight up and move to the other half and repeat. I then burn my fingers checking the first half since I'm too impatient to wait for it to cool down and make sure that all the tape has been melted. I do this for both sides of each leg so a total of four strips are used for a pair of pants. In my experience, using steam during the pressing makes the tape melt better without scorching the clothes. So far, the taped pants have gone through about five wash and dry cycles on regular wash mode and are holding up well. Even blind, I can hem a pair of pants in about ten minutes. I'm an old US Marine so I don't mind a little pain and my son doesn't wear out the cuffs on new pants by walking on them. Make sure you measure and place the tape carefully as undoing it is a real chore for me. Although I was able to tear it off without destroying the clothes, I haven't been able to get the residue off the spot where I first experimented. One more thing, there is a really long cellophane lead on the hemming tape roll, so long that I first thought it was the tape itself. You can iron this all you want and it will not stick even a little bit to clothes. It will, however, eventually burn onto the bottom of your brand new teflon coated iron so make sure you unravel to the actual hem tape. This is probably not an issue for anyone who can actually see the product though.

Great, but doesn't work on nylon/spandex
This works great on denim and other fabrics but doesn't work on leggings or any type of yoga pant fabric. It does say to test a small area of the fabric before using and that's how I found out that it doesn't work on spandex. Otherwise, it's a great product and it saves a lot of time especially if you don't like to or don't know how to sew.

Comes in handy a lot!
Very lightweight but holds nicely. I’ve used it to mend hems in trousers many times. Used it to reseal the seem on a comforter and it’s lasted through a couple of washings and daily use. Strong yet easy enough to break its grip when you’re ready to actually stitch/sew the piece.

Convenient, even if you know how to sew
I've used Stitch Witchery for years, both for art projects and for regular sewing needs. Aside from crafting, I use this to attach badges/patches, shorten curtains, and fix hems in clothing. This is something that should be in every college student's "sewing kit" (along with safety pins!)---this stuff can be a lifesaver for people who aren't comfortable with needle and thread.I get the best results with this when I use a very hot iron on the steam setting. I've also used a damp cloth between the iron and the clothing I am fusing. Stitch Witchery will start to fuse pretty quickly, but don't stop pressing at that point! If you want to get a good seal that will last through the laundry cycle, you have to really heat (melt) this product completely---definitely use a cloth as a buffer if you fear scorching your fabric. Alternatively, if you need to make a very temporary emergency repair, just barely heat it until it sticks and you will probably be able to "peel apart" the fabric later if you need to.My one star off is just because Stitch Witchery seems to make fabric a little less flexible. Depending on what you are hemming this might not matter, but on flowy skirts and dresses I don't like the slight stiffness (it improves a little after washing). On curtains, tablecloths, or crafts, no problem.

stitch witchery
I use this product a lot. I press down all or most of my bindings on placemats, table toppers and runners and quilts with stitch witchery. Makes for a nice clean finish and lasts many washings. If it is an item that will get washed lots like place mats then I also do a stoptitch down to double secure the binding.
