Barley, an absolute necessity in any beef stock soup. For some reason I cannot find it in grocery stores in my area any more.I like that it comes in 1 pound bags. Easier to keep on the shelf for a longer time.

I would have made this 5-star, but the cooking instructions on the bag are for cooking LENTILS. I don't need cooking instructions for barley, but others might, so I deleted a star. I bought this to make a barley soup my husband loved long ago--but none of my local stores had pearled barley, so I was glad to find it on Amazon.

As expected

Here in the dark woods of Northern Minnesota, Deer Camp in the fall is quite a tradition. Over the years the number of us has dwindled down to a scant half dozen. I've been the camp cook now for more years than I care to remember. At supper time the first day, we kind of let the baqadger loose. Tonight we had a big pot of Beef Barley soup. I'm not quite sure but I think I was just elected King Cook of all time. I think it had a lot to do with the big addition of Gefen Pearl Barley. Now that's pretty darned good deer camp soup. Give it a try folks.

When cooking brown rice in a rice cooker, the lid can get a bit dirty. After adding a bit of pearl barley, that problem was solved!
