I agree, this machine is loud as heck!
I agree with the other review. The ice it makes is great, but the machine is very loud. Had a local rep. come out to check it and he said that it might have been a little louder than usual, but that it was working as expected. My contractor said he has never heard an ice machine so loud. If this is in a utility or pantry area, it might be OK, especially since it's not making ice all of the time, but ours is in the center island of our kitchen. Had to ship the item back myself, costing around $300. That was only after invoking A-Z, as the seller also originally wanted a 10% restocking fee (note, that seller is not the current seller listed). To further confirm, our contractor had another job the very next week installing the same machine. He said it was just as loud. Once I had shipped back the other unit, I ordered the Scotsman Brilliance Nugget Ice machine. The ice is essentially identical, but it is SO MUCH quieter. We are now very happy with our Sonic Ice, from a different machine.

Awesome ice. Louder than I like. Replaced after 10 years..
I just purchased (another vendor) this ice maker (10/2018) to replace a 10 year old Hoshizaki previous model. It makes wonderful chewable sonic-type ice that everyone likes. How loud is it? Here is the most precise answer: Louder than the refrigerator, Quieter than the trash compactor, Quieter than the clothes dryer, On par-ish with the indoor central air conditioning unit maybe, but a touch more grating of a noise. It only is noisy when making ice. I have asked my kids to get their ice from the refrigerator instead before bed, so the Hoshizaki doesn't make ice when I go to bed...otherwise I sometimes just scoop the ice onto the "bin full" sensor so it won't make it at bedtime. My room is adjacent to the kitchen and I'm a light sleeper. Thats how loud/quiet it is. I love the ice, I don't know if other brands are quieter. With any of these ice makers, you DO need a GOOD filter built for ice makers AND you need to descale/clean the machines twice a year. I seriously don't know if the ice from these machines is worth the hassle, I really wanted to just put a wine fridge in the hole under the counter when the last ice machine died, but I was overruled.

I do not recommend!
Extremely loud unit. Replaced a Scotsman and a GE, both were very much more quiet. You must turn up TV or speak loud to have a conversation. Hoshizaki stated it was a commercial unit and there is nothing they would do. I do not recommend!

Not worth the hassle or the money.
Made great ice but had numerous problems with it. First, it is loud. Second, some kind of solenoid went out and flooded the floor which in turn came thru the ceiling into my garage. Nice repair bill there. Just recently it started making this very loud noise so I shut it off. The service tech came by and said the gear box has failed so I’m looking at over $1800 in parts and labor so instead I will junk it. Do not buy the Sonic-ice cubelet machine. It’s not worth it. Get the Hoshizaki cuber. I’ve had one of those for 15 years and never broke.

Crapped out after 4 years
Intermittently stops making ice. Was told the repair would be $1800. The unit has been maintained meticulously according to the mfg schedule. I've only run r/o water on it. It apparently has a refrigerant leak. $4k for a new unit. No way.... Look elsewhere.
