Good little machine for the price.
my 35 yr old Singer suddenly needed some work and I estimated it would cost at least $100 to fix it in addition to finding someone in this rural area to do it. and I was in a hurry. so I bought this machine without any previous reviews. it’s worked out very well. it gives a nice even stitch and also has a selection of other stitches. I like the reverse stitch lever a lot. For me, it’s a little crowded trying to replace a needle. now for the big thing—I hate the bobbin winding set up. I know most of the new machines have the same thing, on top of the machine, but I’ve been used to a WIND IN PLACE bobbin, which is why I bought my old machine, and what I consider the best invention Singer has ever had. why it’s not standard still I can’t imagine. other than that, this little machine is fine for simple projects and repairs and general use.

more expensive to fix than replace
DO NOT BUY THIS! I got this for my daughter for her birthday in August. The pedal quit working 3 weeks ago. Finally had time to take in to a repair shop 1 hour away. Turns out the electrical components and wires came loose inside the machine and it will cost more to repair it than replace it. The shop said Singer USED to be a good product but they are just trying to come back after being off the market for a while and the machines are all junk now. He said do not even consider the "heavy duty" model. They have even more problems. Hopefully the company will give us our money back since amazon won't (outside the return window). Your best bet is to buy this from Walmart so when it breaks you can take it back... Hope this helps

Update: basic machine
Update: I'm returning due to problem with bobbin winder. Winds thread very unevenly. I used their "picture" directions to do it but its just not working right. When you try to sew, the thread bunches up or breaks. There is no bobbin tension adjustment on this machine it relies on an evenly wound bobbin. After I figured this out i used a bobbin that was loaded on another machine and it works. Ordering a different machine. Hopefully will have better luck! Also the light is so dim it is basically non existent. Not a good machine for older people that need more light! I've been sewing for over 50 years and have had many brands of machines in those years. I don't sew as much as I used to so only needed a machine for smaller projects. This machine should be good for that. Pros: lightweight, easy to set up ( because I've had sewing experience, might not be for a newbie), fairly quiet, nice stitches. Cons: the light is TERRIBLE (thankfully I have an ott light or I couldn't use this machine), directions are not very good, they should have written ones too, not just pictures (easy for people with sewing machine experience but might not be for newbies). All in all this is a decent machine for the price. Haven't tried it on heavy fabric yet but it works great on light/medium weight fabrics.
