We love Usborne books and this one didn't disappoint - my 3 year old learnt her shapes within a week of having this. We bought her the number one too and she loves that also. Great quality, lovely illustrations and perfect for teaching in a fun way.

Great book to teach shapes
Bought for my grandson (2 1/2) - kept his interest and he seemed to really pick up the shapes well

Made us jumped
We bought this book for play. Then we thought it would be nice if my 1 year old can learn basic shapes such as circle, square and triangle or star, hopefully one day. My daughter loves the book and she learnt all the figures including semi circle, oval and rectangle in 1 day! Our daughter is a normal girl. She has just started tell us what she wants with her limited vocabulary like any other friends. So we didn't expect 'rectangle' or ' oval' or 'semi-circle' comes to her vocabulary at such an early time of her life. Well... we didn't expect this much of progress. Surely, this book made our life a little bit easier. Now she starts using this book as a memory game book 'where...rectangle' then flip. Please make the next step of this series with more complicated shapes in it.

Read so many times!
Daughter has read this over and over again. Shapes used in a creative way with loads of flaps to lift. There's a beach page, circus, town, presents, food and town page with counting and other activities-its really fun and educational. She got it when she was 21 months and loved it. Still loving it at almost age 3

Not for very young babies
I bought the book for my 1year old daughter, based on the other reviews. She already has some other flip-flap books, loves them and learnt to recognise many words from these other books.I found "The Shapes" most certainly not for her group age. The book contains of 7 "exercises", each over 2pages (eg. "Sleepy town", "At the circus", "Picnic" etc).Firstly the exercises are based on vocabulary she doesn't even have yet, for example she needs to open a shape flap to reveal a "human cannonnball" at the circus, or "chocolate bars" or "candies" at the picnic (she wasn't given different types of sweet yet).Secondly, the exercises are quite abstract for her age.I think this would be a nice book for 2-3years old... but I'd hope she knows the names of basic shapes before this age or wouldn't need the book to explain.I did like the quality of the book - solid cardboard pages, pictures and colours.I would recommend for a baby 1.5yrs +, but not for younger babies.
