''Hey, it's brilliant this, isn't it? I'm on a DVD! That's me on the front cover! And there's our mam up there... and Ray from the club: I'll have a pint o'cookin' and a bag of nuts, our Raymond! Oh, he can't hear me. There's our Maurice an' all - hey our Maurice, where's Vera? And there's Jack on the end, he doesn t look too happy does he? He's on the committee, like I am. Anyway, I'll have to go now, I've got the Times Literary Supplement to read... it's great, you get three and a book on Sundays! Magic!'' Bill Maynard stars as the council labourer, hapless handyman and all-round public nuisance in this classic Yorkshire Television sitcom from the pen of award-winning writer Alan Plater (Beiderbecke). Oh No It's Selwyn Froggitt boasts a regular supporting cast featuring Bill Dean (Brookside) - who also wrote lyrics for each show's theme song - and Robert Keegan (Z Cars), and remained a firm favourite with the viewing public throughout its two-year run, establishing Bill Maynard as a household name. This release brings together all three series of Oh No, It s Selwyn Froggitt along with the final series Selwyn and the original pilot episode from 1974.

MAGIC ! ! !
Brilliantly written sit-com. Bill Maynard at his best. The story of a simple guy, who at every attempt to get things right, always fails in spectacularly funny ways. After getting appointed to the committee of his workmans club as entertainments manager, he fails to get acts, screws up fund raisers. Not help by his fellow committee members who constantly play tricks on him.Something of a niche programme, but has many well known faces from "Please Sir!" and other shows. Many 1970's catch phrases such as "MAGIC!" came out of Bill Maynard.Although many gags, such as his trusty pushbike falling apart at vital moments are played out several times across the many series, they never fail to raise a giggle. His final series getting a job as entertainments manager at a crumbling holiday camp, I must have missed when it was first aired on TV, but typifies the collapse of holiday camp status in the that era, with grotty chalets, over-loud PA systems, almost forced daily activities. If you've not seen this when it was aired on TV, and enjoy over the top sillyness you cannot go wrong getting this box set.

Magic Our Morris!
I remember enjoying this as a kid & haven't noticed it anywhere on telly since so I thought I'd give it a go.Very glad I did. I've been watching them with my parents, 2-3 episodes 2-3 nights a week and the first three series have mostly been very funny. Just one "dud" episode in our opinion. The final series, in the holiday camp, isn't as good as the first three. There's not enough supporting characters - in fact there's only one regular - for Selwyn to bounce off, but even those episodes have been quite good & worth a look.ÂŁ10.99 well spent!

Magic, Our Maurice.
Used to love this this back in the day. Its still the same. Bill Maynard is perfect as Selwyn. The bumbling council worker who has the mickey taken out of him by his fellow club members on a regular basis. A great supporting cast of Ray Mort, Bill Dean, Robert Keegan, Richard Davies and Megs Jenkins. A treat to watch

Selwyn Froggit
Bill Maynard is marvellous as well-meaning misfit Selwyn Froggit. His optimism for life, often misplaced or thwarted, is never dimmed as he constantly endeavours to improve his own life and those of other people. Most of his efforts end in disaster, whether it's upside down banners or the annual pensioner's outing ending in a brawl, but Selwyn remains positive through all setbacks. His 'friends' on the committee often play pranks on him which sometimes veer uncomfortably towards spite, but Selwyn always comes out on top through a mix of good-nature and good luck. Other characters, such as Selwyn's trainspotting brother Maurice, his ever patient mother and genial landlord Ray provide another layer of warmth and humour in this easy-going, daft and gentle comedy, and there's the nostalgia factor for anyone who remembers the 70s, too. Great value boxset and very funny.

quite good but nothing special
quite good but nothing special - Bill Maynard very good although I felt slightly awkward with his character which seems to make fun of a person with some personal issues

but still relevant today as characters like Selwyn will always be around
This DVD is magic! Selwyn Froggitt is the hapless council employee trying to improve his lot (and intellect) by reading The Times. It's 70's sitcom, but still relevant today as characters like Selwyn will always be around. Very funny. Great fun, without brain strain from complex plots.

sheer enjoyment
I watched this series when it first appeared on tv, many years ago. It hasn't lost any of the humour since then. Centred in a small northern town's working mens club, Selwyn is the member from Hell. Always volunteering to help out and then wrecking everything. An expert at digging holes for the council, he's a one man disaster area for anything else. The phrase "easily led " also springs to mind. Gentle humour of the kind lost long ago. Buy this dvd, sit down on saturday afternoon with a beer, and enjoy... You won't be disappointed.
