Perfect for romcom lovers
* The story follows Daphne, a librarian, who was soon going to get married with the love of her life Peter. But things were going good until the moment he realised that he was in love with his childhood best friend Petra.Which is why Peter and Petra dumped their partners.Which is how Daphne begins her new story: Stranded in beautiful Waning Bay, Michigan, without friends or family but with a dream job as a children's librarian, and proposing to be roommates with the only person who could possibly understand her predicament: Petra's ex, Miles Nowak. What starts as a devastating situation for both, glues them together, they form a tenuous friendship which might lead to something even better. But Daphne and Miles are exactly opposite of each other. But can it work when they are so different? there's no way Daphne would actually start her new chapter by falling in love with her ex-fiance's new fiancée's ex... right? My review: It was my first Emily Henry book, I had my expectations veryyy high and I'm happy to say that i wasn't let down. I lovedddddd Funny story from the beginning to the end. I was so intrigued by the writing style of Emily9. The characters were multi-dimensional, there was interesting and convincing sub plots like friendships, sibling relationship, conflicted parental relationships etc.And Milessssss he is my new fictional boyfriendMiles is a green flag• I love this man so much.Miles is a selfless, humble, and sexy guy.Loved the romance and the humour. This is one of the best romcom i have ever read. Period.I absolutely loved annotating this book.

Missed opportunities
I seem to have a love-hate relationship with Emily Henry's books. This one falls more on the negative side of that spectrum. It's marketed as fake dating, yet the fake dating basically stops at aprox. chapter 5. So I felt bamboozled. I also don't buy these two MCs loving each other and there was no gratification for the main plot. I just read a few hundred pages of trauma dumping with a watered down romance that could've been hilarious with a revenge plot, but alas, the author didn't go that way.

Romantic, sexy, heart-warming and funny
In Funny Story we meet Daphne who was engaged to marry Peter – he loved to tell people the funny story of how they met. But during his bachelor party, he realised he was in love with his childhood best friend, Petra and he calls off the wedding, kicking Daphne out of the house which he reminds her is his. Daphne is devastated and plans to leave Waning Bay in Michigan as soon as the readathon at the public library where she works as a children’s librarian is over. She finds herself sharing an apartment with Miles, Petra’s ex who is similarly devastated. They are both shocked when Peter and Petra announce a wedding date very quickly and Daphne in a moment of madness agrees to go with Miles, pretending that they are now dating. To start off with she thinks Miles is a pot smoking looser but as she gets to know him, she realises that this was Peter’s opinion, and she discovers he is much more than that.Funny Story was an absolute joy to read, I loved everything about this book. It has• A character who is a dedicated children’s librarian and who loves reading• A very sexy and kind man• A bit of a guide to all the best places to visit in Waning Bay (I want to go!)Daphne realises she had essentially uprooted her life to be with Peter, seeing his friends and family and having none of her own. Even one of her old friends seems to have taken Peter's side. She makes friends with the wonderful Ashleigh whom she works with, and she soon starts to make more connections. We hear about her upbringing – a loving single mum who worked hard but whose changing jobs meant they moved around a lot, meaning she struggled to make and keep friends. Her dad was big on the promises but not so much on the following through. My first Emily Henry (I know – I’m sorry!) I always knew she would be an author I would love but there are just so many other books to read (most of them on my shelves). I’m now on a mission to complete my Emily Henry collection and read them all as soon as possible. An absolute joy – romantic, sexy, heart-warming and funny! I absolutely loved this!
