Worth knowing: The fan aloe belongs to the tree-like succulents and derives its common name from the arrangement of its leaves, which is also what makes this plant so special. It can grow up to 5 m in height in nature will, however, only reach heights of about 2-2,5 m in cultivation. It does grow very slowly though, but on the other hand cultivation is easy. The grey-green, slim leaves are quite soft and without thornes. They grow between 30-40 cm long. The stem liquifies after some time and the orange-red flowers are especially beautiful. Most of the time there are 30 of them on each flower stalk.

Origin: The Aloe plicatilis is a native of South Africa.

Propagation: The fan aloe is a seed-leaf plant. Sprinkle the seeds on moist cultivation soil or sandy cactus soil. Cover the seeds just thinly and place the container in a warm spot (20°-25°C) afterwards.

Place / Light: The Fan Aloe loves sunny and warm places. She is even more flowering when being placed outside during the summer months.

Care: Ready made catus soil or soil with good drainage characteristics and higher sand content is suitable as a planting substratum. Since the plant is slow-growing, it is in less need for water. Actual growth takes place during the winter months, for this is the time when the rain period usually sets in within the plant's natural habitat, thus there is more water available to the plant. Provide with a bit of fertilizer every 3-4 weeks from April until October.

Winter period: Choose a bright position during winter, best is frost-free. Several specimens have survived temperatures of -3°C to -4°C, nevertheless you are still running a high risk that plants will freeze to death in their early years.
