Great idea
I think this fire blanket is a good idea. I think every household should have one. It did take a little while to come but it's worth the wait. I think I've got one for each of my kids

Legit novel use (electric oven broiler smoke trap)?
I bought this fiberglass fire blanket for a novel use, and it appears to be performing as I hoped. So, every Monday I broil (grill) a chicken breast for the week's lunches (I brush each side with 1 tsp extra virgin olive oil, and season with freshly ground black pepper, and sea salt). With my previous oven I ignored the instruction to leave the oven door open, which led to the door glass being thoroughly browned, BUT I had no issue with choking smoke, as this was being retained within the oven. Now, with my smart looking new True-convection* Samsung oven, I didn't want to end up with the brown door glass, so have been leaving the door ajar by the instructed margin (a few inches), which is saving the glass, but I suspect is not at all good for my lungs, as the small amount of smoke that is produced gets deep into the lungs, and is causing me to cough quite a bit. In the summer I can open the windows, but if there isn't much of a breeze, this doesn't resolve the issue entirely. So, I thought; is there someway I can safely trap the smoke from the grill, and this fiberglass blanket appears to be just the ticket, as it can easily handle the high temperatures, and appears to be trapping a sufficient amount of the smoke (I can see a little browning after a single use, on one edge in particular). With it folded once, the 39" x 39" blanket is just wide enough to hang over either side of the oven, with enough material to trap the smoke (using a saucepan on top, to hold it in place). It likely has a bonus effect as for the first time I've seen, the broil element was powering down, as the blanket is trapping more heat in the oven, so less electricity is used. Also, I was concerned there might be a plastic burning smell, but I had no such issue.* A note on my Samsung True-convection oven; so I was hoping the convection baking would mean I wouldn't have to switch two baking trays of cookies several times, to ensure even baking (as with my previous non-convection oven), but the bottoms of my peanut butter cookies ended up being burned in the bottom tray. I believe the reason for this is the hidden baking element is at the base of the oven, and is causing excess heat to reach the bottom tray. I solved this by placing my stainless steel broil pan on the very bottom shelf, after the oven is pre-heated to the desired temperature, and have the baking trays somewhat higher than the middle two positions.

Works like a charm
Within 30 days of hanging this on my kitchen wall I had a grease fire on the stove. I had flames about 2 feet high covering two burners, one which was red hot. The fire had made it's way underneath the burners so it didn't extinguish right away. There was air in there so i couldn't starve it if oxygen. But the flames went from about 3 cubic feet to almost zero instantly. The blanket really stopped the fire from spreading and allowed me to remove the pan with the grease and get control of the emergency. The blanket is charred but it has zero damage and I'll load it back into the holder to use again someday. For 10 bucks this is an absolute must. Just get one and hang it on your wall. Do It.

Easily Deploys, but Not Fireproof
Last night, a small grease fire in my kitchen presented a rare opportunity to write a real review. The fire occurred in a ten inch skillet in the middle of my stove. It was contained to the pan, and might never have spread elsewhere, but flames were leaping over a foot out the pan, so it seemed prudent to take action. I immediately went for the cabinet that used to house the fire extinguisher and this fire blanket and saw that someone else had moved the extinguisher (yikes). Good thing, I had the presence of mind to also buy this blanket, right? I pulled the blanket out and quickly deployed it over the stove top. For one, beautiful second it appeared to work. But, then the smell started—the toxic smell of burning blanket—and I realized that not only had the blanket failed to suffocate the small fire, but that the blanket itself was now fueling the fire. Bad. That was bad. Fortunately, the blanket has a slow burn time, so I had a critical thirty seconds to a minute to hunt for my fire extinguisher and successfully deploy it. But make no mistake, in the race between fire and blanket, fire would win, burning through the blanket before the blanket could suffocate it. By the time I got the extinguisher, the blanket had melted enough to let a small amount of air in. And this was not a big fire. As it was, I had no choice but to deploy the (very messy) fire extinguisher. While cleaning up the fire extinguisher powder, I had time to contemplate other alternatives too. If I had thrown a large metal pot lid on the skillet, for example, I would have been a lot more successful at suffocating the fire. That would have been so much smarter! And even a wet towel would probably have better odds. Of course, a pot lid takes more skill to aim while keeping a safe distance from the fire, and wetting a towel takes time, but still both seem better than this blanket, and *might* have avoided the need for a huge fire extinguisher mess in my kitchen. Of course, though there is still no substitute for having a good fire extinguisher on hand. If you learn nothing else from this review, please know that this blanket is NEVER EVER a replacement for your fire extinguisher, and you should KNOW WHERE YOUR FIRE EXTINGUISHER IS AT ALL TIMES.So, in the end, good things about the blanket: it deploys easily, and it may buy you some critical seconds to find another way to extinguish the fire. But, you are going to need another way to extinguish that fire. The blanket will not extinguish the fire alone, and it smells really bad as it burns.

~ VERY Affordable, COVERS Stove/Range Well, Removes Easily from Case, BUY THIS! ~
I can't believe I have gone all these years without having one of these in our kitchen. The price is amazing for something so important to have on hand and I will likely purchase more of these. I'm thinking, even, of making these a standard part of any shower/wedding/housewarming gift from us in the future. I had no idea they were so affordable. It's really silly NOT to have at least one on hand. The blanket removes easily from the holder and fit well over the stove with good coverage. I suggest everyone purchase one of these and not "wish you had" should an emergency arise. Hoping to never have to REALLY put this to the test, but very happy to have this in our kitchen!!

Fire Blanket Melted at 225f
Used this fire blanket on my smoker to insulate it. First time using I had the smoker set for low and slow smoking at 225f and this thing melted. Trying to figure out how to return it now. Not sure if if this is defective or just poor quality. How can it melt at only 225f !?

Misleading - only 1 in packet
Bit misleading, this only contains one fire blanket. Look good quality but just disappointed that it has 2 in the photo but only 1 was actually received.

Safety First
It is easy to hang and see with clear instructions - hopefully we never have to find out if it works or not. It's so good to have the extra protection it could provide in case of a flash fire.
