Fantastic tamper for a fantastic price!
This tamper produces a very consistent puck every time. The pressure on this tamper is easy to set and it doesn’t change unless you change it. I returned a previous tamper because it was inconsistent and the pressure changed with use. I have been using this tamper for 6 months with no issues whatsoever. Very good tamper.

Good tool, though instructions would be nice.
This works great. My DeLonghi Stilosa espresso maker came with a plastic tamper. Really? I was so happy to get one that actually is effective. I wasn't sure if it was actually tamping because it didn't feel like it was pressing down beyond the level of my portafilter, and when I tested it with my hand it didn't move at all. Then I discovered the plastic rim stays on the edge of the portafilter and the metal plug moves down separately to compress the coffee grounds. You can test it by holding the rim while you push the handle down. The other confusing thing was the measure markings. Which one is the right one? Why aren't they marked in foot-pounds rather than some unique measuring system known only to the maker? I contacted them and they said 10 was the standard pressure for most uses. Not sure how that translates to pounds, that would be helpful to know. Anyway, I've had it a few months and enjoy using it.

Design did not like the rings. Was easy to use. Has a decent weight. Fit was good. Build quality ok. It function the way it needed to.

Great Addition to Your Expresso Station
The biggest concern when purchasing one of these is if you are getting the right size. After I purchased my expresso machine, as seen in the picture, it only came with a plastic tamper which does it's job but is actually smaller in size than the cup where you put the coffee in. This created uneven tampering. The downside is that there is no information online or on the manual that tells you what size of tamper to use. So after some research 51 mm seams to be the universal size for home expresso makers. As you can see it was the right size and now it presses all of my coffee evenly. It has a gauge that you can use to know how compressed you want your coffee to be. I am totally satisfied I made this purchase and that now I have this addition to my expresso station. If you have a similar expresso machine as I do, you are welcome! Now you know to that this tamper will fit your marchine.

Doesn't provide the pressure as advertised
This tamper is a joke. It does not push down into the portafilter as advertised. I wish I would have seen the reviews before I bought this because I'm not the only one with this issue. At first, I thought I was using it wrong, but after twisting the handle up and down and testing each setting, it made no difference. When I twisted it all the way upward, the spring popped right out of the handle. No matter what I did, it did not press down into the portafilter with enough pressure. Another reviewer on here said that they feel like they may be using it wrong, but I highly doubt this is the result of user error. Unfortunately, this was only $16, which isn't worth the effort to return it. Don't waste your money.

Levels but doesn't apply 30 lbs of force to the grounds
The design works for getting a level tamp every time but does not provide 30 lbs of tamping force onto the grounds. All of the force generated by the spring is transferred to the "Flat balanced gasket" which sits on top of the porta-filter. I wished I took a closer look at the design before purchasing.The spring doesn't provide that much resistance either. Testing with a scale shows that the spring starts to compress at around 7 lbs of force. A design where the spring pushes on the "Stainless steel base" is the proper way to apply force onto the grounds.
