Lovely Choice for Young Princesses & Princess Lovers
This a sweet, gentle retelling of the classic tale of Sleeping Beauty. There is nothing scary in this book; no scary witch or fairy, nor any great and terrible battle at the end. Instead the prince just enters the castle because essentially the clock has run out and the thorns have transitioned to fragrant flowers. Adults might find this out of step with the Disney version that we are all familiar with, but very young children are going to appreciate this gentler version as they are really all about the 'happy ending' and not so much about the struggle. The artwork is very nice. Maja Dusikova's soft watercolors fit a story that is geared for little ones. The maids and princes are all rosy cheeked and refined. And there are fun details of activities within the castle-- children sitting beneath tables, fleeing cooks who they have frustrated. There's not quite the brilliance and detail that you find with Paul O. Zelinsky's pages, but Dusikova's work is ever so much better than the Disney renditions which I don't think translate that well to books.A book for younger princess lovers. Used to be better
I read this when I was a child and eagerly bought it for my nephew. These comics are a great introduction to books for children while the more adult Classics series is great to introduce time honoured classic novels like Treasure Island and Jungle Book to the new generation. The drawings are just not as pretty as they used to be - there was a smoothness and softness to them which is lacking, The colours seem a bit garish. Also the font is a bit small and difficult to read. Maybe it's changes in printing technology but overall a disappointment.

Exactly what it promises.
A slim volume that reproduces both the Perrault and the Grimm versions of the famous Sleeping Beauty myth. Both have been translated with care. It's a convenient way to compare and contrast the two different tellings, and at less than 50p for the Kindle, you can't go far wrong. For an easy reference for those investigating folk lore or for those who just want a quick fairy tale fix, I thoroughly recommend it.

Reviews here do not refer to this wonderful edition of sleeping beauty !
Wonderful retelling and glowing gentle illustrations by Maja Dusikova - another perfect book from North-South, a traditional version of Sleeping Beauty which also works well with smaller children.Unfortunately, Amazon's description does not correspond to this edition!Even more misleading, the reviews published here clearly do not refer to the North-South edition. Please correct as soon as possible, Amazon! This is a perfectly beautiful book which deserves correct description and relevant reviews!

あっという間に読める
あっという間に読める『眠り姫』だが、あまりに早く読めすぎる感じがした。もうすこし想像する余地があるといいかも。大人が読むと懐かしい。
