High Flex and Oil Resistant Applications
When it comes to working on automotive projects or any high-flex and oil-resistant applications, having the right tools and materials is crucial. As an avid DIY enthusiast and a car lover, I have tried various gasket makers over the years, and none have impressed me as much as the Permatex 82180 Ultra Black Maximum Oil Resistance RTV Silicone Gasket Maker. In this comprehensive and entertaining review, I will share my personal experience with this incredible product, highlighting its exceptional performance, helpfulness tips, and why I believe it deserves a resounding 5 out of 5 stars.1. Exceptional Performance: From the moment I opened the package, I could tell that the Permatex 82180 Ultra Black Gasket Maker meant business. Its consistency was perfect—neither too thick nor too runny—and it spread smoothly, ensuring easy application. I found the 3 oz size to be ideal for most of my projects, providing an ample amount of product without unnecessary wastage.2. Unmatched Oil Resistance: One of the standout features of the Permatex 82180 is its incredible oil resistance. I have used it on several engine-related applications, including oil pans, valve covers, and even transmission housings. Regardless of the temperature or the type of oil involved, this gasket maker has proven to be a reliable sealant, preventing any leaks or seepage. It's like having a superhero protecting your engine from potential disasters!3. Sensor Safe and Non-Corrosive: One of the concerns I had when choosing a gasket maker was its compatibility with sensors and other delicate components. Thankfully, the Permatex 82180 is sensor safe and non-corrosive, meaning I didn't have to worry about damaging any electronic parts. This feature gave me peace of mind, knowing that I could use it confidently without any adverse effects on my vehicle's performance or longevity.4. High Flexibility: In high-flex applications, such as intake manifolds or exhaust systems, the Permatex 82180 Ultra Black Gasket Maker truly shines. Its high flexibility ensures that the seal remains intact even under extreme vibrations and movements. I was pleasantly surprised to find that even after months of usage, the gasket remained intact and showed no signs of cracking or deterioration. It's like a gymnast doing backflips effortlessly!5. Helpful Tips for Success: To maximize the effectiveness of the Permatex 82180, I would recommend following these helpful tips:• Ensure that the surfaces to be sealed are clean and free from oil or debris. Use a suitable solvent to clean the area thoroughly before applying the gasket maker.• Apply a uniform and continuous bead of silicone around the entire perimeter of the sealing area. Make sure to avoid excessive application as it can lead to excess squeeze-out and wastage.• Allow sufficient curing time as specified in the instructions. I typically leave it overnight to ensure a complete and durable bond.• If you're working on an application where the gasket maker will be exposed to extreme temperatures or harsh chemicals, consider using a primer or accelerator to enhance the bonding performance.Personal Experience: Having used the Permatex 82180 Ultra Black Gasket Maker extensively, I can confidently say that it has exceeded my expectations in every aspect. Its reliable sealing capabilities, exceptional oil resistance, and flexibility make it an indispensable tool for any automotive enthusiast or professional mechanic. I have tackled various projects with this gasket maker, and it has never let me down. Plus, its affordability and ease of use make it accessible to everyone, regardless of their skill level. Conclusion: In conclusion, the Permatex 82180 Ultra Black Maximum Oil Resistance RTV Silicone Gasket Maker is a remarkable product that deserves a well-deserved 5 out of 5 stars. Its exceptional performance, unmatched oil resistance, sensor-safe formulation, high flexibility, and helpfulness tips make it a must-have for any automotive project. Better than any RTV on the market
This gasket maker is amazing! I used on a few parts for my fresh built prelude and let me tell you, you need this stuff. The seals so damn good, that once it cures, you gonna have trouble taking it off, which is what you want. I literal fought my oil pan for a few hours trying to remove it, take it from me, it really seals and does what it is made to do. Great product, and the price is even better. I’ll take this over Hondabond RTV any day, tried and true!

Worked on my Jeeps plastic Valve Cover.
I had a very slow oil leak that was dripping from a small gash on the top of one of my valve covers. Structurally it's fine but it would push a few drops a day through and down in to the exhaust which stunk. A new valve cover, not to mention the labor intensive installation and gaskets would have run me hundreds. I figured I had nothing to lose trying this stuff. Well, its called "The Right Stuff" and that's exactly what it is. My valve covers are made of some type of heat resistant plastic. This isn't specifically advertised to work on plastic but it can handle well above the temp my valve cover gets to and after cleaning around the area really well, the adhesion is realy strong. I added a little extra around the gash for extra surface area contact in the hopes it would be more secure. I let it cure overnight and went for a drive today. Zero leaks and the patch isn't going anywhere. Even if I had to reapply every so often, it's working and easy to do. Really happy with this experiment. I totally recommend this stuff!

Worked Flawlessly for My Intended Purpose
I purchased this Permatex® 99070 The Right Stuff® Gasket Maker, 5 oz. - 2 Pack with Caulking Gun from Amazon in February 2018 for the purpose of fixing the dashboard in my 2008 Mercury Milan that was bulging around the passenger air bag trim cover. Basically, the original manufacturer's adhesive located beneath that area had lost its effectiveness after several years (a commonly-reported issue by Mercury Milan and Ford Fusion owners). Rather than paying a dealer or independent auto shop to fix that issue, it was suggested to me by an experienced auto technician, who frequently performs this same type of repair, that I simply do what he does and apply this Right Stuff® Gasket Maker 33694 (black colored caulk gun type) adhesive with the included application gun (or equivalent) to the underside of the warped section of the dash board, after first removing the air bag. I did just that and the fix worked flawlessly. No dashboard bulging has returned after several years later. The reason that this adhesive product was recommended to me, versus another sort of stronger automobile adhesive (e.g., 3M), is because the dashboard area can become very hot from sunlight and so the adhesive must be able to withstand excessively high temperatures which this product is perfectly capable of doing. For this specific application, at least, I have been completely satisfied with this product.I like the caulking gun that’s included with this bundle. While a regular caulking gun can also be used with these smaller 5 oz. tubes, I specifically needed this shorter gun to facilitate working in the confined space between by car’s dash and windshield… which it did brilliantly. The gray frame measures 8 inches long and that includes the 6-inch length of the cradle plus the 2-inch long top-most portion of the handle attached to the end of the cradle. The fixed handle portion measures 6-1/4 inches long from top to bottom. The 1/4” diameter push rod measures 9 inches long plus an additional 1/2-inch for the bent end portion of it.These short 5 oz. tubes of Right Stuff® black one minute gasket measure 5-1/4“ long and fit nicely into this gun’s 6-inch long cradle, as shown in my attached photo. Similarly-short tubes of RTV/sealants should work equally well in it.For my own personal and occasional shop use, I find its overall quality to be satisfactory… at least for an imported (i.e., Made in China) tool. While true that it’s constructed of a thinner gauge steel and is not really what one might deem to be a heavy-duty tool, the gun still manages to have a pretty “solid” feel to it and does not necessarily feel cheap or flimsy. I would classify it more as a medium-duty type tool. The push rod seems pretty beefy/sturdy and is notched on its one side to facilitate the gun’s smooth ratcheting drive mechanism. I like that the circular metal plate attached to the end of the push rod can be easily removed, presumably to clean it, by simply loosening its hex nut, although I haven't found any reason to do that yet. A handy spout cutter, measuring 3/8” in diameter, is included on the fixed handgrip portion and operated by squeezing the trigger grip which has a sharpened edge behind the spout cutter hole for the purpose of cutting the tip. Attached to the underside of the cradle is a caulk tube seal puncher rod/wire, measuring 3-1/4” long, used for poking holes in the foil seal of the tube. The gray painted finish on my gun seems to have been applied neatly by the manufacturer and has been durable and held up well through my occasional use of the gun during the past three years. No markings whatsoever are present on the gun, except for three somewhat cheesy-looking model #, “SPOUT CUTTER” and “MADE IN CHINA” labels that have been affixed to it; I presume this is a cost-cutting measure by the manufacturer to eliminate the step of actually stamping that information onto the tool itself. Some reviewers have noted that the ratcheting drive systems of this gun did not hold up well or even broke during prolonged daily use in a professional shop. While it’s a decent enough tool for home or light/moderate usage, I can certainly see where this gun could likely wear to the point of eventually failing to ratchet any longer under consistently heavy usage. But this gun is still fairly affordable enough and a good enough overall value that I can’t see why a professional shop or heavy user wouldn’t mind having to replace this gun every so often, if necessary, since it can be purchased separately here on Amazon.
