Wonky post in a very short timeframe

This matches everything in my kitchen beautifully. However, the central post went very wonky within a short space of time. I tried to remove the base cover to see if this could be tightened but it just ripped in my hand so I left it. Not very happy, but it’s still upright and I can still put my kitchen roll on it. Just don’t move it around!!
