Wonderful character development
The story has great character development, with excellent depiction of a young girl's rural life during the 1930's depression. It reminds me (somewhat) of stories from "American Girl" (doll) series, with historical settings. Even though it's cultural era is 80 years ago, issues raised in this book - such as bullying, racial biases, and inappropriate male sexual behavior - are as relevant today.
