I'm in my 60s and was unfamiliar with streaming. I tried an android 14 based streaming device and became overly frustrated with it. After looking at a number and types of streaming devices, anded up buying both the Roku Ultra and Ultra LT for two different TVs. I chose the ultra because for the ethernet capability. My house is wired with 2g internet and also has Deco 2g mesh wifi throughout. Ethernet is just faster. The Ultras are very similar with the Ultra LT being the Ultra lite version. LT is lacking a USB port and remote finder and comes with the standard voice remote with earphones that plug into the remote. The Ultra has bluetooth capability for earbuds and the plus remote also lights up, but requires charging. Both units function exactly the same and are lightning fast. Set up was super easy, especially after the first Roku account was created. The system walkes you right through everything and the menus are well categorized and defined. Both Ultra and Ultra LT come with Roku's free channel and free live TV. I paid big bucks for my cable just to have the Motortrend channel. Roku's Live TV has Motortrend Live TV for free! Everything I was paying for with my cable premium package is available here for free. Everything! And both are extremely easy to use. My only complaint is that both the Ultra and Ultra LT come with a stand-by light that remains on. The unit don't turn off, nor does the light. The two TVs I have these hooked to are in bedrooms so I have to block the light at night. Not that the lights are bright, but bright enough to be annoying. While various internet searches suggest the light can be turned off, the system settings on both the Ultra and Ultra LT do not provide any means to change. Other than that, I love these things. The LT is such a great bargain while the Ultra seems a bit pricy for a few convenience upgrades. Review: Nice device - Faster than other Roku devices, fully featured remote. I do like the Roku environment so this was a nice upgrade from the express+ 4K I was using.

Upgrade (mostly) over Fire Stick
Product: Roku Ultra HD After having one final app crash watching Hulu on a Fire Stick, we had had enough, and decided to upgrade to a nicer device. Over, this device is pretty good. We won't be going back to the Fire Stick. The UI response is very snappy, and the remote feels good, with good button layout. And no more Hulu crashes. Some issues prevent it from being 5-star tho: * Audio can get hilariously out of sync with the video. Typically happens on the Hulu app if you pause for too long or rewind too much. Also happens on the YouTube TV app, but less frequently. HBO, Prime and Disney seem fine. We have gigabit Internet and modern WiFi routers, so no the issue isn't that. If we exit the app and restart, audio is back in sync again. * Headphones feature is janky. You should be able to plug in wired headphones or use Bluetooth earphones. I tried both of these, and they did work for about 2 weeks, then suddenly both stopped working. I cycled the device AND the remote, including taking the batteries out, but I can't get headphones working again with either connection type. There are no helpful tips on their support site about it. Oh well. So overall, pretty happy, but if you really need headphone support, not sure it'll be reliable.

A fast standalone unit, even for a smart TV
I bought a 65" QLED TV at a great price, but it was based on the Google platform. Because it utilizes the TV CPU, the interface is very slow, with long, black screen pauses between channel changes. Google also does a good deal of advertising on their platform and they collect a good deal of user data. I installed a Roku Ultra box in a second HDMI port. It took five minutes to setup and pair the Roku remote. The Dolby Vision display and audio work great. All of the pauses are gone, promotions are minimal the interface is much more intuitive than the Google interface. Because both platforms still work, I can use either.
