Regal Academy: Rose Cinderella in Fairy Tale Land

From the Winx people, something fun.
Winx did so well they followed it with a similar concept. A normal girl accidentally finds herself in a magical school in another dimension. In this case the famous fairy tale heroes are teaching in an academy where young fairy tale hopefuls learn to use their powers. The main characters are the grandchildren of the top five characters. The main character is Rose, an ordinary girl from Earth who stumbles across a door to the Fairy Tale world, where she learns that she's the grand-daughter of Headmistress Cinderella. She's a total ditz, but very enthusiastic. She's placed in a team with four other students.Astoria Rapunzel has prehensile hair that's part ivy. She uses it as a third hand. She's a total bookworm who's very proud of her high grade point average.Hawk Snowwhite is the lady killer. Princesses swoon when they see him. He panics whenever an apple is in danger.Joy LeFrog is a cheerful airhead who floats through life. She can turn into a frog but she can't control it, so she needs a prince to kiss her and turn her back on a frequent basis. She likes bugs, mostly as snacks. Don't leave her in charge of refreshments.Travis Beast is a sensitive artistic type, but he's also rough and prone to sudden outbursts, so his artistic side is a little hard to see.Together they face the challenges of school life in a magical world where dragon riding is part of the normal curriculum. One challenge being Vicky Broomstick, a witch in training who revels in the more evil aspects of the trade, as long as the teachers don't catch her at it.This is a lot of fun, and the voice acting is a lot better than the original Winx adventures. I can recommend it to anyone who likes their fantasy with a bit of a funny bone.

Pumpkin Seeds and tons of potential!
Well, I'll be honest. I'm a sucker for anything to do with fairytales. Whether it be the classics from Grimm, Andersen, and Perrault all the way to ballet retellings, all the way to television shows that retell or use them as a central focal point such as "Ever After High"...I'm there. So, what exactly is "Regal Academy"?"Regal Academy" is a television series about a school where the children of fairytales go to learn. An otherwise normal girl winds up attending this school seemingly by accident. And that's when the adventure begins. The show is currently on its third season, however, there have, up to this point, been no DVD releases in the US. They do have DVDs but they are European releases where it originated from (Italy to be more precise). So, this set seems to be the company testing the waters in the US market and features the first three episodes of season 1. In terms of money, I would have to say, for the price, that's not a very good deal. However, the reason I would recommend it is because this show has great potential and lots of lore it hints at in every episode. Not only that, but the more episodes I watch, the more interesting it gets. Thus, for me, it's more than worth it to purchase this if only to let the company know that they should release a complete set in North America. Currently, outside of this DVD, you can also watch the show on nickelodeon and through Amazon and iTunes video (as downloads).Personally, what I like about the show is its use of fairytale lore. Admittedly, a franchise like Ever After High has a stronger grasp of the lore...but this show has its charm and is continually growing on me. One thing that may be jarring for some folks though is that the main character can act like an airhead at times because she is so enthusiastic about everything...but she isn't dumb by any means and does pull her own wait. All in all, DVD-wise the deal of 3 episodes at the price point isn't exactly great. However, it's a good show continually getting better and more and more interesting with tons of foreshadow. That alone is worth the purchase just to support the creators and let them know that they are doing a good job.
