An insightful view of Metalsmithing
Beautiful pictures with the knowledge to further your trade in the metalsmith world. For 7 months I apprenticed with a wonderful lady, so I know a lot of the tools and machines used in the book. However, it's always good to refresh your mind and to have the knowledge at your fingertips when ordering tools. The main reason I purchased this book was to get an idea on the studio layout. Of course it's an example of a large area for someone who has lots of money, yet it gives a basic idea and you are to imagine your own space with what you have. I have acquired many of the items listed at pawn shops, yard sales and flee markets.I love the way it's broken down into sections of tools, bench pins, soldering, a gauge guide, little things like making your own sanding sticks/polishing sticks and simple projects. It starts out with the simplest metalsmithing project for you, a simple band ring. When I first made mine, it came out GORGEOUS!If your NEW at metalsmithing, I would recommend this book as well as talking with your local jewelry metalsmiths about metalsmith apprenticing. Not Kay Jewelers, Jared's or other chain jewelry shops. They have their items casted and shipped to them.Good luck to ya, and happy metalsmithing

Jewelers Studio Handbook
This book is an excellent resource book for those who are serious about pursuing a the field of jewelry as a hobby or home based business. It would be helpful to take classes in jewelry making skills to become more familiar with the information given in this resource. Personally, I bought the book specifically to learn how to make the pretty metal picture frame shown at the top of the cover of the book and then used in advertising the book. Sadly for me, the book doesn't give a step by step guide for this project. While it does give information that might have been used to build this frame, I hoped to learn how to make this particular piece. Other pictures on the cover of the book are also only inspiration and there aren't specific steps to making that piece. There is however a lot of good information. Julie

The Jeweler's Studio Handbook
This is a very informative book regarding working with sterling silver and mixed media. Great book for understanding the tools needed to get started with working with metal and torches. Gave great tips on how to use the tools. Also projects explained in very good detail. Looking forward to doing some of these projects. Would recommend this book for someone interested in starting to do soldering and working with metal and mixed media projects.

Like new condition!
I purchased this book to replace the one my dog destroyed. LOL! I was so excited to find a used one that was a fraction of the new price. Although classified as a used book, it looked brand new when delivered. I was really happy and the shipping was fast, also. Thanks so much!!

Poorly written
I bought this book with high hopes of finding a text living up to the subtitle 'studio handbook' but was severely disappointed. The book is very poorly written and too imprecise to be of much value, a handbook it is certainly not. Concepts are used throughout the book without any precise definitions, subject bordering on the technical or on physics are incorrectly explained, revealing the author's ignorance. Concepts and methods which in a handbook should be illustrated by means of diagrams are either left unexplained or illustrated with imprecise photos. The only positive quality of the book is a range of photos of modern jewellery that may serve as an inspiration - but you can get many more through a search engine much faster and cheaper - and again, the exact fabrication procedures are not explained in a single instance. This book is not worth buying - very poor value.

Makes me feel capable
I am a new user of P.M.C. and plan on becoming a silversmith. I do not want to specialise in only one medium and so have bought a couple of books in order to prepare myself for what lies ahead of me.This book certainly does all of that! It's clear, concise and thorough. And although I personally don't like, and would never buy, any of the finished products as featured in the projects, I can appreciate them and the work that has gone into them. I can't wait to give them a try and see what I can achieve.

Jeweler's Handbook
I love this book, I still keep going back to it thinking what I would do if I had the time, money and energy. The pictures are great and it's written in easy to understand english. It's sparked ideas for me for other things using metal clay and resin just from looking at the designs. It doesn't cover those things but I have been able to use designs in here to make my own versions in materials I'm used to using.
