Thick, but works
My husband frets with the humidity in his humidor. When I saw this gauge I had to order it to see if it would help. At first the question was how to mount it. My husband decided to remove a panel that duplicated what the gauge did & mount the gauge underneath. It looks fine & after monitoring it for about a week, my husband deemed that it was working well. I have not noticed him toiling over the moisture, so I pleased.

Saves money over single use humidity devices
We had been buying packs that add humidity to the humidor, but they need to be replaced and can become a bit pricey over time. This one allows us to add humidity to cigars without having to replace it.It's nice to have an option to humidor packs, and this fits that description. It's also easy to use.

So and so
Easy to use and install. But not so accurate.... Useful for any humidor.

Does its job
I bought this instead of investing in an actual humidor; however, this device does the trick. It doesn’t come with instructions so you have to figure out how it works on your own. Initially, I was trying to open the can. However, I realized that it doesn’t open and all you have to do is to drop some water onto the sponge material. Over time, water will evaporate off and keep the chamber humid. For the chamber, I used a steel pot and clear cover so I can monitor the contents that are inside. I had an electronic humidity/temperature gauge inside to cross check to see whether the gauge on the humidifier is accurate. The gauge doesn’t match what is shown by the electronic gauge so it is important to take the reading with a grain of salt.

Looks awesome, works great, transferable -- though slightly large
TL/DR: a luxurious, stylish, and effective tool to add to your humidor, or to give as a gift. The Scotte Cigar Humidifier / Hygrometer is a beautifully crafted, stylish, and effective tool. If you look at the attached photos, you can see it possesses a sort of nautical appeal to it (like old-school brass barometers and such). In terms of function, the humidifier works as well as could be hoped. It has the "ideal humidity" range marked out on it, so you don't even need to remember any numbers -- if the dial rests below the range, add water; if it's above, ventilate for a bit. (Note: After adding water, I noticed that the droplets collected on the surface of the metal grating, but a few taps on the side of the humidifier was sufficient to get them to absorb down inside. I then verified that the humidifier is appropriate for usage in my portable cigar case by turning it upside down, shaking it, and seeing that not a single bit of water came out.)I have been using the humidifier in my portable cigar case for a few weeks now, and am quite satisfied with its efficacy. One concern I did have was the size of it -- it requires a bit more space than any other humidifier I own. However, it comes with a magnet affixed to the back which is paired with a pull-and-stick metal plate that you can put wherever you desire. This allowed me to stick the plate to the inside lid of my cigar box, and then the humidifier's magnet keeps it locked in place and out of the way. (Plus, if you later decide you want to use the humidifier elsewhere, those metal plates are incredibly inexpensive). So, whether you're shopping for yourself or for a gift for somebody, this item is a great option. It combines style and function to produce an attractive and effective tool.

Nice hygrometer or humidifier, but not both
This is a hygrometer and humidifier built together which leads to the problem with it.I first tested the hygrometer by placing the unit inside a humidor which has it's own humidifier and it's own separate hygrometer and left it there for a few hours. I then compared the readings on this hygrometer to the humidor's hygrometer and they both read 71%.I then removed the unit and let it sit out in the open until the hygrometer dropped to about 50%. I then added water to the humidifier in the unit and placed it inside a different humidor which does not have any other humidifier. I left it there overnight and when I checked the hygrometer on this unit it read 80%.I then removed the unit from that humidor and let it sit out in the open until it dropped to about 50%. I then placed the unit back inside the first humidor. So now the humidor had it's own humidifier plus the one in this unit, so I expected the humidity to rise. After leaving it there for a couple hours I check both hygrometers. The hygrometer from the humidor read 75% while the hygrometer in this unit read 90%. This confirmed my theory that having the humidifier in this unit directly against the back of the built in hygrometer leads to inaccurately high readings on the hygrometer. So you can use this either as a humidifier or a hygrometer and expect good results, but if you try to use it for both you will get higher readings on the hygrometer than the actual humidity in your humidor.
