Every score we'd hoped to have
I picked this up for two different scores from this composer and am happy I did, since there are several more, which I'm enjoying quite a bit. This is a nice collection, easy to read and well-laid out. The music difficulty hits around a medium-somewhat advanced level.

Beautiful music
The song titles are in Japanese, but can be easily translated into English using a language translation app on your cell phone. Just point the camera and it shows you the translation. I then wrote the English versions in my table of contents page. I also had to heavily crease the pages and use weights to keep it open on the proper page (hence why I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars). Other than that though, the music notations and terminology are universal, so no issues with reading/playing the music. It is beautiful music!

Great arrangements for the advanced beginner, plenty of well-loved songs in one book.
Book came beautifully wrapped, not a wrinkle on any page! I looked through the arrangements and they look great for an advanced beginner like me (I only started self-learning how to read piano scores and play the piano a year ago). The arrangements don't look too simple nor hard, so I'm certain I'll enjoy playing all of the pieces! As someone who has practised and memorised some of Yiruma's pieces like Love Me, River Flows in You, Chaconne and Fairy Tale, the pieces look pretty manageable (somewhat easier than Yiruma's pieces) and I'll probably be able to take less time mastering them than I did Yiruma's. As I love Studio Ghibli music and Joe Hisaishi's work, I got Hisaishi-san's Ghibli's Best Stories which are piano arrangements by Hisaishi-san himself. But since he is a master at music, those were too hard for me... So I'll say that this book will be a great transition step between the me now and the me who will (hopefully) be able to play the music from that other book in the future!

Wonderful songs but the book...
I love Joe Hisaishi's works, all of them! That being said, this book leaves a lot to be desired...The paper, while of a high-quality thick standard is so firm that you cannot bend the pages to stay open; I am constantly having to reposition my clips to keep the pages open. I usually "attempt" to play 3-4 pieces at a setting, this book will not cooperate at all; I have to re-clip EVERY page, which completely throws off tempo, etc.The music itself is exquisite!

Advanced Level. Beautiful Songs.
The songs in here are beautiful. A collection of studio ghibli - it was definitely worth the money. The book is good quality, however it is difficult to crease the pages so that music book doesn't stay open very well. We ended up using paper clips. Lastly - this book is not an intermediate level. It is advanced. I got this for my boyfriend for his birthday and he Loved it. Most of the books song titles are in Japanese, but I was able to find a song list online.

Worth it
In my personal opinion, some of the arrangements aren’t very good. But I still think this is worth the money just for the melodies and chord changes. Very beautifully written music.

Gorgeous
This book is beautiful. Intermediate to advanced music. I am an early advanced pianist and found these easy enough to read through and enjoy the first time- but challenging enough to be interesting and require more attention to intricate passages. I definitely recommend.

Good collection of songs but hard to keep pages in place due to binding

One of My Desert Island Music Books!
This is a great collection of some fabulously "romantic" music, whether or not you are familiar with and have seen the Japanese anime films that they comprise soundtracks to. Joe Hisaishi writes such distinctly attractive tunes (hard to get out of your head and stop humming!). In my view, although he tends to feature the piano more than simply the orchestra in his writing than the others, he is in the ranks of the great "distinctly different" film composers such as Ennio Morricone, John Barry, etc, whose tunes and style you can readily identify as "theirs" as soon as you hear the first few opening bars. Some of his compositions are "sad ballads", some quite uplifting and stirring; often they are rhapsodic, more like mini-concertos. I have other Joe Hisaishi "Best of" type books of his music that are very playable, but more difficult arrangements and for the advanced player than this collection; but this is a fairly comprehensive and more complete selection aimed at the intermediate player. Nevertheless, still very satisfying and enjoyable for the more advanced player as arrangements are quite pure and reduced to the "essence" of each song/tune, but not "basic" arrangements. Definitely one of my "desert island music books", although I'm not sure what you do without a piano under the solitary palm tree!

probably his favourite piano book and one he returns to for fun ...
I bought this for my son who has just taken his grade 1 piano. It's very well used, probably his favourite piano book and one he returns to for fun when his serious piano practice is done.
