nice bustle but not for gown
I own a historical walking tour company and I dress in period clothing on a daily basis. This bustle is only one structured undergarment in my wardrobe so I'm quite familiar with good quality and poor quality caged/hooped garments. I believe this bustle skirt is well made but the top hoops will not maintain their loft and structure with super heavy fabrics or many layers at the top of the bustle. I believe it will give a significant amount of lift to most bustled or trained gown. This bustle has the more snail-like shape of the 1870-1880's. (see attached picture for the shape). Overall, if this is the shape you're looking for, this is a good bustle for the price point.

Missing Boning poor stitching and lack of historical accuracy
I've been sewing for 10 years. I need new paniers to replace the ones I made 4 years ago.For $30 i expect all six boning pieces to be capped with boning tips so its doesnt poke through the fabric, theyre not even filed down, I expect all six boning pieces to be there. I expect them to function as pockets and be made accurately. Thats what the slit is for. I expect not to have to stop working on my other projects to fix it.

No pockets, good for the price.

I’m just now getting into historical cost you mean! My first task is to make an 18th-century sack gown! These came in the mail and they were compressed but once I unwrapped it they filled out and they look beautiful they seem strong! I haven’t put any fabric on it yet because of the fabric stores are closed right now because of the pandemic. But it looks beautiful the only thing is that there is no bottom underneath so you can’t use them for pockets. I might adapt them to make them so you can use them as pockets. All in all great buy for a good price for someone who’s just getting into historical costuming.

Exactly what I wanted
Great skirt. Exactly what I was wanting to wear under this dress. Was light weight and comfortable to wear.

Weak, but functional
When you need a pair of panniers, you're usually using a heavier material for the skirt, right? These things can't hold up ANYTHING - let alone a petticoat and skirt. They also collapse so often. I had to weight the hem so they wouldn't be so flimsy. After some modifications, I eventually got it to work, but geez.

Sides don’t stay in place
I bought this for my daughter to wear under a large Marie Antoinette gown. The sides are accordian like, so once it’s tied around your waist you have to pull them down. It looked fantastic at first, but as she moved around the sides started to ride up and made her hips look pointy instead of rounded. She had to keep reaching under her dress and adjusting them. I will probably look for a different one if she ever wears the costume again.

Great Underskirt!
Bought this to go under my gown and it fits perfectly! It has a drawstring at the waistline so that you can pull tight to fit your waist which I love. It is of good material and wiring, and is of good length; it does not show at the bottom of my gown, but flairs out my gown on the left and right side, as I expected it too. This item is as described and worth the money.
