This beautiful, handcrafted pendant features a faceted, gem-quality moldavite cabochon, lovingly wrapped in rich coils and weaves of Sterling silver wire with blood-red gem-quality rhodolite garnet. The wire was oxidized naturally with egg yolk, polished, then sealed with clear lacquer to resist tarnish and preserve the aged finish of the piece over time. You can still see small particles (meteorite?) suspended inside. The entire pendant measures 33x23x12mm (1.3" x 0.9" x 0.5") and comes suspended on an 18" Sterling silver chain. Since each piece of moldavite is unique, with distinct shape/color/texture, this pendant is one-of-a-kind so there won't ever be another like it. Moldavite was named for the town of Moldauthein, in the Czech Republic, where it was first discovered. The origins of moldavite remains hotly debated by the scientific community. However, the most predominant theory proposes a meteoritic origins (making this a tektite, or meteorite impactite) and this is based on evidence such as it's extremely low water content, unique pitting and wrinkling if the surface, which is characteristic of meteorites, and isotope analysis, comparing it to other known tektites around the world. So, moldavite is essentially splatters of molten terrestrial rock, blown from the surface of the Earth by a comet or meteor impact that cooled as it fell back down, falling mostly in Bohemia. This piece comes in a luxurious, black velvet jeweler's box, contained in a cardboard outer shell (so you can wrap the box without damaging the velvet); perfect for gift-giving! This is an heirloom-quality piece you can treasure for many years to come! This ships fully-insured and with international tracking, for your convenience and peace of mind. *Coins are shown for scale and will not be included with this item.
