His parents were not portrayed as good parents. It also made his marriage problems seen ...
The book was full of interesting anecdotes. It portrayed Charles as a misunderstood, deep thinker who had a hard upbringing. His parents were not portrayed as good parents. It also made his marriage problems seen to be not always his fault.I finished the book thinking that Charles is almost a normal person in an abnormal family and situation.David Brawn.

Three Stars
Too much detail about his charities and at the end became too much waffle.

Long live the Queen
Excellent read which told us much about toffee nosed Charles and his struggling female partners. Lets hope the Queen outlives Charles.

The most complete book about Charles until one is written after his reign
The book is well written and researched. I am an Anglophile and have read many books about the British monarchy. This book presents a very rounded picture of Charles -- his character, his ambitions, his vision, his life up to this point. It presents him as a thoughtful, inquisitive man who was born to do one thing -- prepare to be the next monarch. Any dreams he may have harbored for a different life and career were out of the question. He is a complex man, born into a rigid system of education, lifestyle etc. Over the years he has literally had to find a role for himself -- a purpose. He established a number of foundations to help young people, preserve architecture, improve conservation, and endorse and cultivate organic farming. Fortunately Charles is the last monarch who will have been compelled to marry someone with whom he was not in love and with whom he was incompatible simply to hue to the ideal that the bride of the future king could have no "past." His marriage to Diana was a disaster for both him and her and did tremendous damage to both of them and their two sons. Despite being wealthy and living a life that most of us cannot imagine, it hasn't been an easy life for him. I came away from the book with the thought that Charles will be a good monarch and that he's been a good father to his sons -- he and Diana -- did not agree on many things but they did agree that they wanted an upbringing for their boys that was very different, less structured and more humane then the manner in which Charles was raised.Highly recommend to anyone who wants to see the way of life of the royals particularly the heir to the throne.

An enlightening read
I have been looking forward to reading this new book about the Prince of Wales for some time and have really enjoyed it. If you are a royalist like me, then I highly recommend this book. Thanks.

Well worth a read - an excellent book about Charles and his life
Love this book - I think Charles has been such a misunderstood character. He's truly decent and hard working, just a tad indulged. But who wouldn't be, in his situation? I think he's amazing. And I love Camilla too, so read the Penny Junor book about her after you read this one. Great companion books. I think the world would be a very dull place without our Royal family (and I'm an Aussie). I love the House of Windsor. We're fortunate to have them. As are the British, who should be ever thankful that anyone would continue to do the job their Royalty does for them.

Interesting read
It is impossible to know the true nature of the man who will take over the throne. He is obviously not a man of good moral character. His treatment of his staff is abuse and reprehensible. His achievements are extensive and impressive. Looking to the future perhaps William will the first true King of substance. William seems to have the ability to be 'great' as a man and effective as a King.
