Boerboel 73024432 Heavy Duty Drop Rod - Stainless SteelThere are three "parts" to this device, the one-piece rod, the two brackets, and the included screws. The rod is 37" end-to-end, painted black, 9/16" in diameter (not the 5/8" advertised), and stainless steel. I cut 1.5" off the rod end with an electric hacksaw (and tapered the tip) – otherwise, the top end interfered with our gate latch.The brackets are also stainless steel and painted black. The screws are galvanized steel with black painted heads – being outside, the screws will eventually rust – this is inexcusable cheapness by Boerboel – one star off for that. I used stainless steel screws from my stock.The whole thing weighs about 3 pounds and is very strong. There are only two positions. All the way up so the gate can operate, or dropped down to hold the gate in place. It is held in the up position by pinched protrusions on the rod. This device is first rate quality.The rod has a 1/4" hole drilled through it, near where the top bracket is mounted, to allow it to be secured in an open or closed position via a small lock. The rod can be removed from the brackets should that be necessary, by raising it up & maneuvering past the pinch stops.

OK it works but installing was a real pain the crimps in the rod that hold it in position are rough and hard to line up precisely thus it may take several attempts at installing until you get it right. And I'm pretty handy with tools so if it's hard for me it will be next to impossible for a first timer.

Very high quality made product that should last and last. Use on a four foot wide wooden gate that I built. If your are looking to securely lock your gate from the inside with this style of closure, this is the one you want. There are a lot of cheaply made imitations out there. Low price means low quality of this type of product.

I used this for a double hinged gate in my carport. Needed something solid to hold the mid-section in place and it works perfectly.

We thought about not bending to reach the rod on the gate. One-hand motion. Imagined carrying something heavy in the other hand while getting the gate open, in windy, rainy weather.This is the answer.Who wouldn’t want the affirmation of a great decision upon every use?That’s what this drop rod can do.

Heavy dutyButThe tolerance between the bracket holes and rod are minimal (potentially, to mitigate end play). rod OD .625"as a result of the manufactured tolerance, the black paint is beat to all heck.she'll be down to bare metal on all contact surfaces within a year or so.

Works great and looks nice. Holds the gate open and secure when needed. We installed on vinyl gates. Would recommend.
