This thing is frickin' awesome.
Got this mortar because I am infantile, and also to entertain my grandson. Brought it with me today when visiting with my son and grandkids, and MAN was it a hit. My 86y father was jealous of it when I showed him. "Oh, I wish I had THAT when I was a kid!!"It's all plastic of course (for some reason it identifies itself as "Jedi Survival Mortar," and has SOUND, which is just a never-ending scree of vaguely electronic warlike noises) , but the shells are SOFT, the action is GENTLE, the distance a shell travels is relatively SHORT, but my GOODNESS such fun. Well done, China.

What you expect to get
This product is pretty much what you'd expect from it, unfortunately it's pretty easy to break but is definitely fun for the amount of time you'll have it. It stands about 1 foot tall when fully assembled, and assembly is easy. Functions really well to as it can fire about 5 to 7 feet, the 7 feet we got when outside firing it in the direction the wind was blowing.

Garbage
This is a really low quality toy that was so cheaply made that we didn't even bother playing with it.

Actually surprised
This little thing actually surprised me with how far it shoots the darts. My son loves it.

Shells Not Soft BUT Works Well, Flies OK, Easy for Kids
If you can keep your child from putting his face in the path of the ejecting shell, you'll be just fine with this fun mortar. The shells are not very soft at all. Maybe a tiny bit of squishy foam on the tip. So that's caveat #1.Caveat #2 is that if your kids are used to stomp rockets and things that fly really high and far, this will be a disappointment. Ironically the kids most likely to put their face in front of the pipe are toddlers, and it's that age which will have the most fun with this. They don't know what a mortar is (well, some don't). My 4 year old thought it was the cement that holds bricks together...LOL Actually that might be in the derivation of the name of the actual device, but I digress. The caveat here is that it doesn't fly that far and the same 4 year old (almost 5 now) is used to rockets going 75-100 feet in the air and this doesn't match up.And that's fine, because these are heavier than the light polystyrene that stomp rockets are made of, and they'd need to be a lot heavier to go higher, and they would need a much stronger spring, which means far reduced safety for a curious-toddler-face-in-the-pipe discharge, which is definitely GOING to happen sooner or later (we were spared, so far).So for what it is, which is for young kids to do nerfy battles, it's fine, and once the rocket is in the air it hits no harder than any nerfy dart and usually less hard, and it flies a nice arc of 15 to 20 feet. It flies farther than the video shows, and I liked that.Assembly is a you-go-figure-it-out type of thing, and that was not thrilling for me - I came here to watch the video which does it wrong (video has the round tube clamp on BACKWARDS - though it will still work that way, you just can't elevate it as much and you might break it off if you don't reverse the direction of that clamp). Later I found the box directions which are so crudely printed they're nearly jibberish. But you can probably figure it out.Your kids will quickly understand how to prime the rockets/shells (where the spring is) and then they're off and firing. All good there. Easy to use. Comes with 5 shells so that's better than most of these type of things that come with 3, maybe 4, but at this price point I would like to have seen about 10 included. Minimum of 8 shells included. Shells are the most expensive part to make so I can see why they limit those. This is an OK toy but I would not say it's a great value. If it came with 10 darts I'd be 4 stars on it. If it had decent instructions AND came with 10 darts, and was at this price point, I'd say 5 stars. It's not that well built. Think of it as a disposable toy that is unique and gets a lot of excitement going, but don't plan on it lasting. As it comes, with the 5 shells and poor instructions, I'd say it's a good value if it's on a deep discount or clearance. At current price it's a tepid MAYBE on recommending it. Meh. But kinda fun, I admit.

lots of fun
got one of these for my kids (and a part of me wanted it too) and this thing is fun! not a very long range but will go the distance of my living room, the kids loved it although my one son like to keep all the foam shells to himself lol. dont expect military grade materials and specs... its just a toy... but its easy to set up and use.. just charge the shots with the little spring charging cup, drop the shot in the tube and away she goes! you get the mortart tube, charging cup , 5 foam shots and a "frying pan" type target.. gonna order another soon so the kids can have battles back n forth.... i may have more fun than the kids lol.. so if youre looking for some nerf style arillery, get a cpl of these for your next nerf battle!
