Great for Young Adults of All Ages
Wolf Brother and the full series of book is really fantastic. While it's a young adult genre I read this in my 40s and since introduced it to all my children. It is a great adventure but also brings us back to respecting the Earth and the animals we need for food. There is a wonderful relationship between Torak and his wolf "brother" and they are called upon to challenge the evil that is invading their lands. This takes them on a magical, supernatural and nail-biting adventure where we meet more of the tribes that live in this world.

Fantastic!
My twin boys (9) have been reading this book in school as part of a class read, and they have been raving about this book ever since!I took them into town today and we had to immediately buy the second book in the series and I have never seen one of my twins looks so happy and excited about starting the next book!If that’s not a big enough endorsement for this book I don’t know what is!Thank you to the author for writing such an excellent story that my son skipped home from town proudly clutching his new purchase. My boys said this is the BEST book they have read so I’d definitely recommend!

Essential For any Wolf lovers young or old
I have listened to all of the six books with AudioBook cds, and can truthfully say I wish it had 10 volumes!I'm 40 and an avid Wolf Lover aswell as being a fan of Michelle Pavers books, but this is outstanding. It delves deeply back to a time before civilisation and technology, it is told from Toraks pov and Wolfs pov, then later others. It's addictive and as with all adventure books it has thrills, nail biting moments, and moment that bring you to tears.I have since buying them listened to them all again after a few yrs and had forgotten some, as an AudioBook preferred method I must say my praise to the wonderful Sir Ian McKellen who narrates the rich story told in these chronicles

A terrific adventure
This is a marvellous story about Torak, a boy who befriends an orphaned wolf cub after the death of his father and who sets out to find the Mountain of the World Spirit in order to defeat a terrifying demon in the shape of a bear that's terrorising the Forest. This is also a story about loss, friendship and bravery in the face of adversity, all described in vivid detail that brings the Stone Age brilliantly to life. The chapters are fairly short and written in clear, uncluttered prose and most of them ending in a cliffhanger so that I was repeatedly asked to read "just one more chapter". I have shared this book with my eight-year-old son and he's absolutely loved it, so much, that we're already two chapters into the subsequent book in the series, Spirit Walker. I would hesitate to recommend this book to anyone under eight years old, as Torak's father dies in the first chapter and the description of his agonising death after being mauled by the bear doesn't leave much to the imagination; I found it quite hard to read these passages myself. This book will probably appeal more to boys than to girls, but I'm pleased to say that a girl plays an important role in the book and equals Torak in bravery and determination. With the evocative cover design by John Fordham and stunning woodcuts by Geoff Taylor at the beginning of each chapter, this is a book to keep and treasure.

Wonderful prehistoric adventure
The amount of research that has gone into bringing Toraks works to life really shows. The pace and plot keep you turning the pages desperate to find out what happens next. I can't wait to read the whole series.

Back to the beginings of time
I enjoyed the linguistic simplicity of this book and felt that it kept moving at a good pace. It feels believable of how the ancients may have thought and what they understood of the world. I especially enjoyed wolfs though processes and interactions with total.

The first of a series that as gripping as any Harry Potter book
This is the first book in a series which in my opinion rivals the grea Harry Potter. In fairness it has many similarites (young people fighting darkness together and learning valuable lessons as they grow up). Instead of being set in the world od wizardry and magic, they are set in the equally magical world of ancient europe, with its different clans and beliefs.Ian McKellen reads the book in such a way that the charactrs spring to life and you can almost smell the forest amongst you. From this first book I was hooked, and as the series of 6 books progresses they just get better and better.Buy the book, but the audio version wins hands down for me. I was able to listen whilst doing housework and driving etc. I actually started to look forward to the washing up as i could treat myself to an extra chapter or two...Give it a go and I guarantee you'll be hooked! It would also be great for familes (with Junior / senior school aged children ) to listen to together.

wolf brother
Whilst brousding during the books on display in a charity shop I came across "outcast" part of the series of "Chronicles of ancient darkness" At first I was attracted by the exteriour of the book but WOW what a find! when I began reading it. Since then I have purchased the whole set [6] of these books, the avbove beeing obne. These books are supposed to be for children but they are equally valuable for adults. So what is it about these books? They take us back to the time wben we are at one or at least close to nature. A time when we lknew how to communicate and respect all living things. In tose early days we knew how to live fgrom what earth provided for us and we lived in hazrmony. And the magic of it all. Even rocks come alive and had a soul. And then, of course the harmony with our co-existing animals who, when treated with respect, were not our enemies. In fact, the wolf becomes our friend and brother provided that he is not hunted. A wonderful deries of bnooks full of natural mystery [it still exists but, sadly, we have lost it] and suspense. There is nothing childish about these books. They are suitable for adults [if they still believe in magic] and children alike. I just widh the series was more than just 6 books.
