PONYJorgensen 3736 Steel Bar Clamp, 36-Inch

Good quality clamps that can apply alot of pressure. I especially like the handles which enable the user to get the most clamping force from the clamps. Not like some other products that are wooden or are small or slick that you are not able to get a good grip and tighten as much. The only thing I would change would be to somehow get the rubber protective pads to stay on a little better. Otherwise, I would buy again.

Good quality

Tough and strong. Pony is the only brand clamp I've used daily during the past 35+ years. These aren't for heavy duty use, like the 3/4" pipe clamps, but they have their purpose. No complaints.

Good brand, price and does its job

I am a fan of this saying that I made up : "A woodworker can never have too many clamps!" - which actually prompted my daughter once to buy me a C clamp for my birthday ! :-) I'll bet I'm not all that original - a clamp is a woodworker's essential tool.I had a project where I needed a bunch of larger clamps; I was looking for 3 and 4 foot openings.I actually want to buy the ratcheting style of clamp, but they cost more and I needed several so the cost would add up.In actual use, these worked very well and in some cases I was able to apply more pressure than what I probably would have gotten from the ratcheting models. I can also adjust these much faster than the ratcheting models.I have both types from long ago; this type ages better.The ratcheting style sometimes slips and needs maintenance (cleaning, lubrication). My Jorgensen's from years ago - no fuss.My only complaints: the protective pads fall off very easily.At some point I just started to use shims.However even when they fell off and I didn't realize, the surface (oak plywood) did not get marred.The other complaint is just obvious from the design: the points of pressure are smaller so on some occasions I needed to put a block between the jaws and the material to transmit the pressure over a longer area (for trim and also sometimes my dados were a bit tight)Of this type of clamp, I am not familiar with other brands that make this style, but since I've had (and still have - 20++ years?) Jorgensen clamps in the past and work the way a tool should work without melodrama, I stuck with this brand.

The new grips are easier to tighten. I have several of the older style with wooden handles and are more difficult to tighten. The added plastic caps on the clamp surface are nice to keep from “denting” the wood surface. They tend to pop off on the permanent side but if it becomes to annoying a bit of adhesive should do the trick.

I have many pony clamps but it seems that you can never have too many. I use pony clamps all the time and have for many years. I’ve never had one fail.
